RIP Kung Fu drifter
Thread started by User1 at 06.4.09 - 1:11 pm

Kung Fu (1972-1975) an American television series which starred David Carradine, (December 8, 1936 – June 3, 2009). It was an influential series about a Buddhist monk in search of his long-lost brother in the American West of the 1870s while dodging Chinese officials after him for killing a member of the imperial family. The show earned cult status (and became much parodied) thanks to its blend of martial arts and Eastern mysticism, and a style that traded heavily on flashbacks and slow-mo fight scenes. A TV film, `Kung Fu: The Movie,' aired in 1986 and a sequel series, `Kung Fu: The Legend Continues,' began in 1993.

On June 4, 2009, Carradine was found dead in his room at the Swissotel Nai Lert Park Hotel on Wireless Road, near Sukhumwit, in central Bangkok, Thailand. The initial police report indicated that Carradine had committed suicide by hanging himself; he was found by a hotel maid sitting in a wardrobe with a cord around his neck and body. Carradine was in Bangkok to shoot his latest movie, Stretch, but the film crew were aware of his absence when they went to dine out at a restaurant on June 3. Carradine did not show up at the dinner and the team could not reach him. They assumed that he took a rest because of his age.

RIP

Carradine was obviously not Chinese, so how did he get the role in Kung Fu?

Back story from the show was that he was part-Chinese and was born in the US in the 1840s-50s?.
Was sent to a Buddhist colony as a child, then returned to the USA to look for his brother.

I liked this show due to its mixing of the Ancient Eastern arts and the grittiness of the Old West.
Sort of like "The Man With No Name" kicking ass without his Remington, .58

Get your "facts" right dumb ass! He got the role cause he was white, not cause he could play an ashon! Anyways there was no ashon around that could play that bad ass role.

Actually, Bruce Lee auditioned for the role but was turned down because he could not speak English clearly enough.

For all you youngsters, which is 95% of you, the t.v. show was huge. People my age (babyboomers) would NOT miss an episode. It was the wandering hippy vibe. And him being peaceful until provoked, which of coures he was on a weekly basis. Then gentle Cane would kick the shit out of the bad guys.
When I was visiting my sister, my brother-in-law broke several traffic laws driving us from the airport, because he (and I) didn't want to miss that week's Kunf Fu.
We made it just in time.
Kung Fu lives on thanks to youtube and DVDs.

O.K., Al.
After putting up that last misspelled post, I watched the video.
I knew Bruce Lee was considered anyway.

Over a few years I got to know David Carradine a little bit. I shot pictures at his art show and his birthday party last year. He was a really strange person. He was really warm and polite one min and then very distant and aloof the next. He always smoked ciggarettes inside and outside no matter how many security guards tried to stop him. He was always willing to talk about his career and share stories about working in hollywood. He also liked to talk about religion and art and he liked to paint.

His wife was always very courteous and seemed to care for him greatly. Its sad to hear that he may have taken his own life. My condolensces go out to his wife, family and all those who knew him better than me.

P.S.

Kung Fu was the shit.

Actually... a couple months back I was at the Lammele theater in hollywood watching the last screening of che parts 1 and 2, and as me and my crew walked out of che 2, we saw a bunch of red carpets and photographers. I always have my camera in my pack so I just told the homies to wait around while i see whats going on.

It was the premiere for Polanski and Crips and Bloods Made in America at the same time. Carradine was there and I was taking a shitload of shots of the real cool mofo. Then some douche with a video camera began to interview him and i kept shooting. The guy had crappy questions for the man so Carradine straight up said, "Ask me something important, like about our new president." So the douche kid asked him exactly that, and after a bewildered laugh Carradine began to speak his mind about our Prez.

He said he believes Obama is the man for the job and that all he needs do now is take care of the "Old Boys" and everything will be ok.

Hopefully they didn't "take care" of him.

That was not funny!!!!
A reason I don't read these threads anymore is cause the things that are said here are so dumb and a waste of time.
And he did not kill himself.
Some people do chose to kill themselves this way and that video is not OKAY!!!!!!!
