hey, i've never done a critical mass ride but i'm really interested in going.
how long do the rides last? how fast are they paced (i have a tank of a beach cruiser and no leg muscles)?
any info would be great as i'd love to join you guys.

at least a couple hours, but they're cruising rides so you won't notice. the route is usually improvised and sometimes ends at a party, or an event, or we'll ride to a taco stand and hang out.
just come out, bring friends, bring your beverage of choice and we'll see you there!

Yeah... they're a lot of fun! One of the better 'this is my first ride' kinda rides.
Plus, everyone's doing it!
For another laid back ride check out Pier Pressure.

Can someone with the magic touch at bikeboom.com change the start time to the more exclusive hour of 7pm start time? In the time I've ridden this, which is about the last two years, we never even came close to the 6pm start time. Hell it's a big challenge getting everyone to move at 7pm much less 6pm.

i emailed lars at bikeboom a while back after speaking to several others about a change in start time, and he never responded.

Does anyone know anyone that can change the start time on our beloved critical mass ride? Seems like Lars may have been emotionally scared by a CM ride and doesn't care too much too to change this. Yeah yeah he's busy etc etc etc.... this has been brought up before and never gets done. I will pray again tonite to the bicycle gods and hope it gets changed. Don't make me sacrifice a neighborhood cat ..........

Maybe if you tried a different tactic, you might get Lars to change the listing. Or maybe, just maybe posting the ride at six will get the ride to really leave at seven. What is it you are so worried about, that the new rida will show up and nobody will be there. Well then take the initiative and show up with a cooler full of beverages to greet that rida with welcome drink.
The different tactic, show up to Lars with a beverage and Wi-Fi computer and ask him to change the listing after chuming it up with him. You can buy him one, he deserves it.
Lastly, don't say Lars doesn't care. You havn't communicated with him, to know his emotions. Last I saw of the man, he told me he still cares. About you, well he didn't say one way or another.

I've tried the buddy chums bit before, as you can see, it got me nowhere. This subject of changing the posting from 6pm to 7pm is well over a year old. Take a look at the LACM yahoo archives for yourself. Really how much buttering up does one need to do to change a 6 to a 7? The problem is I've talked to a few people about this ride and some of the responses I get is that they would do the ride but can't make it because of the time. They assume the ride starts 6-6:30. I tell them the rides have been starting after 7:30. And no I don't buy the argument that if you advertise the ride starts at 7 then people will be leaving after 8:30. As far as the bringing the cold ones, I already do that and share it with the ridazz there. Finally I couldn't give a rat's --- if Lars cares about me or not. I just hope he cares about seeing this ride get as big as should be in representing LA.
