April Hollywood Ridazz?

Anybody working on this one? Should be the 27th, right?, which is the same night as the "Contra-versy" Race.
How about a downtown start so we can watch the race, then we can take a ride and end in Hollywood. Both ends are mass transit accessible.

Let's make it a 90's ska-themed ride!
We could call it the REEL BIG RIDE.
I'm down for planning it. Angle? Eric? Anyone else?

A few more themes to perhaps consider:
"spandex vs. messenger" - show your allegiance?
"speed racer" - come as RacerX?
"Contra" - come as Ronald Reagan or a Sandanista?

Any other day and I would say the a Mess vs Spandex ride would be hella cool, but I don't think the Cash race is gonna need any extra fuel for that fire.
This is gonna be an excellent night of riding:
6:30pm = Critical Mass @ Wilshire & Western
8:30pm = Cash in Your Mouth Crit
10:00pm = Midnight Ridazz
----------------------------------------------------------------------
All of which are good warm ups for the DarkCENm followed by RidazzGoneWild.
Sure Cutter, I can help with a route if you like.
I have very little Ska experience, besides an overwhelming urge to wear suites, but who cares, we're not riding trumpets!!!

This will be my first midnight ride and am in deep desire to do it after seeing that spoke card. How long and how fast is this ride. I am fairly new at this biking game, but I absolutely LOVE IT!!!
Thanks

Usually ten to twenty miles, lately trending more towards twenty. "Moderate" (meaning easy) pace.

Make sure that your tires are pumped up it makes a huge difference.
If you are riding a heaver bike like a beach cruiser you'll want to pay attention and stay up front as much as possible so you dont end up missining some lights and get stuck in the back.
you are in for a treat!

Route is up!
Who wants to ride it tomorrow night??
The start is Pershing Square downtown, but there's also an "optional start" at Hollywood and Vermont for those Hollywoodies who aren't going to be at the race.
How's that playlist coming? If I have to do it, you'll all be very sorry. :)

Here are some suggestions:
I have a pretty loose definition of "Ska" and I'm more partial to some of the earlier stuff.
I have all this stuff on vinyl, I'm happy to make a mix or a CD and deliver it or upload an MP3 to my server. Let me know.

Ride scout meets at 9pm at Rite Aid parking lot at Vermont/Hollywood Blvd. Hope to see some folks there.

You'd better put some third wave bands on that playlist
The Untouchables "I Spy For The FBI" and "Free Yourself"
Fishbone "Party At Ground Zero"
The Specials "Ghost Town"
Rancid "Timebomb"
Reel Big Fish "Sell Out" and "Join The Club"
Buck-O-Nine "Irish Drinking Song"
The Aquabats "Playdough"
No Doubt "Trapped In A Box"
Skankin' Pickle "Special Brew" or "Gas In My Car" (if you're feeling ironic)
MU330 "LA"
Less Than Jake "Sugar In Your Gas Tank"
Dance Hall Crashers "I Don't Wanna Behave" and "Go"
Sublime "Badfish" and "Santeria"
Voodoo Glow Skulls "Insubordination"
The Hippos "Irie" and "Far Behind"
Save Ferris "The World Is New"
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones "The Impression That I Get"
Then throw in some Op Ivy to try and earn back your cred!
Also, if you don't know what to wear, here's some tips:
-Fred Perry polo shirts
-Original Penguin or Munsingwear polos
-Ben Sherman or fitted gingham check short sleeve shirts
-Lonsdale or Adidas track tops
-harrington or bomber jackets
-three button black suit with a skinny black tie
-pork pie hats or fedoras
-fitted Levis jeans with suspenders
-Levis sta-prest pants
-black Oxford shoes, Adidas Sambas or (of course) your Docs!
Also, throw some 2-tone checkered stickers on your bikes or helmets. Old Peugeot bikes already have them!
Skank!

Scouting at 12pm today!!! Anyone wants to come, meet me at the corner of Vermont and Hollywood, at the Rite Aid parking lot. Sorry for the short notice.
I came up with a new, slightly more complicated (but very cool) route, so I'd like to have a few foos come along if possible!
Thanks!

NEW ROUTE!
Ride page is updated
FYI - I will NOT be putting together the MP3 playlist for this ride. I just don't have the time, especially if I want to get the spoke cards finished in time. There have been a lot of good suggestions for music, so if someone could take those tunes and slap 'em on an iPod for whoever's going to be providing the soundsystem, that'd be swell.
Here's the new route: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=890552

sup all.... I've got a couple of friends that will ride but this will be their first ridazz ride. Can they just park near Rite Aid and meet up w/ the Cash Race group around 11pm at the Rite Aid lot? I read the details of the ride but I just wanted to make sure. I just don't want all the miles to scare them off. Thanks in advance...

Hey,
i wanna come out to this ride, just wondering how fast pace it's going to be and if there are any hills.
anyone going to any of the earlier rides tonight?
and is anyone coming out from the UCLA area? that's wehre i'm leaving from

and i'm assuming whoever's going to the DTLA race is will go straight to this ride afterwards corect?

so the ride leaves downtown at 10:30... and it takes half an hr to get to the hollywood stop. so does that mean that people are meeting in hollywood at 11 if they arent going to the race? if someone could clarify this a bit that would be helpful. thanks.
soda04.27.07 - 5:50 pm

that's right! anyone who wants to join the ride in Hollywood needs to be at Hollywood/Vermont at 11pm.
Cutter04.27.07 - 6:24 pm

And as far as hills go, it's a very easy ride.
Cutter04.27.07 - 6:26 pm
reply
That's my impression . . . I think there will be a fairly large contingent of people at the race that want to do Hollywood Ridazz after and should be getting to the Rite Aid at 11pm.

A few more things:
- There are only about 55 laminated spoke cards. I couldn't afford any more time or dough to get more done. Beyond that, there are going to be paper route maps (essentially non-laminated cards) handed out.
- The directions on the back of the card have one error: it says that the ride leaves Pershing Square on Olive St, but it should be Hill St. instead.
- The ride gets REALLY twisty about halfway in.
I hope SOMEONE'S bringing the tunes!
