BIKE + CAMPING = SHENANAGENS

Who wants to go camping? The big idea is Leo Carillo. We hear its a no reservation deal if you're on a bike and possibly free or very cheap. I'll get into that later, depending on the interest.
The planned date is Dec 15th & 16th, a Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
This idea was hatched on a train ride from SD to LA.
I know there was a post in the Shangri La thread.
I know it's going to be cold. We'll probably have to carry our shit up to the spot on our bikes. Maybe we'll work something out with a car.
If anyone is interested, let us know!

A couple of us (Swarm!) have toyed with the idea of doing a ride the full length of Mulholland, including the dirt part, and ending at Leo Carillo. It would require cyclo-cross bikes because of the several miles of off-road. We'd camp and either ride bike via Santa Monica or just turn around and reverse the Mulholland journey back to Cahuenga.

CUBCAMP can donate come CUBS to CAMP! We tried to do this SO long ago (16 weeks ago!) and never got it going. I trust you guys to plan it though for sure...Any other Cubbbbiez interested?
Mulholland sounds good, not sure if I have a bike for the trails though...
Are you planning for a saturday daytime, sunday return?
I am all-in for an all-bike all-out all-elite some-core but all-elite ride for sure...

I always thought doing the Ridge Route would be a cool camping trip. There was an Indian pow wow that happened in the area before, but they moved to a different location.

Looks like there is a Light Brite Ride on the 15th and the All City Toy Ride is on the 14th. Now I'm thinking.. The All city ride should be no problem. That's Friday. What's with the ride on the 15th? Hmm..

Maybe Mountainerz ride could be timed with it. Not quite at Leo Carillo, but Sycamore canyon is just up the road a mile or two and has camping and trail access to some great mountain biking. I'll cross-post over there....

Looks cool... One thing is that once you're north of the Ventura County line, you can have bonfires on the beach... It could be a good way to warm up... But then again, carrying wood on bikes.

There is a small store right across the HWY from Leo Carillo beack, no? They should have wood bundles for sale there. Just a guess.

I called the reservation center to see what the deal was with bikes and the rumor of "no reservation if you ride in." Looks like I was hood-winked, bamboozled. Right now my azz is BUH-roke so I will call again on the 1st of December when I gets ma check. That means that hopefully not all the spots are taken up and we can still roll to camping the weekend of the 15th/16th.
Keep your greasy fingaz crossed ridazz....

We should make it an LA Bike Culture spot.....someone should be camping up there every weekend, given good enough weather. I mean a large number of people are hooked up in the bike community in LA. And....Leo Carillo is just a ridazz ride away from Santa Monica. We should use this resource.
I an not exactly sure on the 'per rider' rate for camping, but it isn't that much. I have heard that there is a store across the street from the entrance that will sell anyone wood, beer, chips, and other convernience store type stuff. Let's explore this. Let's fill it up. Let's make it OURS.

I heard that Leo Carillo was bike friendly when I went camping up there. I called the reservation place and they said that was a no go. I shall to investigate.

Okay...about the reservations. I have heard that there is a "hicke and bike" designated area for camping....that is first come, first serve...and is never overfilled. That doesn't mean you don't have to pay for staying overnight. So, I will call tomorrow morning and get all of the exact info, including rates and capacity of the hike and bike. I will also get rates for the regular camp ground.
