Ian Curtis - Control & Ride

Thread started by
User1 at 10.16.07 - 1:21 am

Sorry Guys it was too painful watch such a person such as Ian being buried in a thread that was not about him at all.
I hope we are able to come up with a ride to celebrate his impact on the music scene. I'll be the first to say I'll be there when there's a ride posted. In the mean time, lyrics to New Dawn Fades seems like a good one that fits with the ridazz............
A change of speed, a change of style.
A change of scene, with no regrets,
A chance to watch, admire the distance,
Still occupied, though you forget.
Different colours, different shades,
Over each mistakes were made.
I took the blame.
Directionless so plain to see,
A loaded gun won't set you free.
So you say.
We'll share a drink and step outside,
An angry voice and one who cried,
'We'll give you everything and more,
The strain's too much, can't take much more.'
Oh, I've walked on water, run through fire,
Can't seem to feel it anymore.
It was me, waiting for me,
Hoping for something more,
Me, seeing me this time, hoping for something else.

The word on the street is that a group of riders may be going to the matinée showing on Saturday at 1 PM, before heading over to Scoops for the Lights Out! meetup.

i'd totally be down to throw this ride if there's enough interest. what time are you rolling out for lights out, russ? 7 right?
trekkie10.16.07 - 2:01 am

Meet at Scoops, 6:00.
Roll out to the Observatory, 7:00. 7:00 sharp! I will be cracking the whip on this.

Which theatre is showing the matinee on Saturday? I'd like to go too.
City Hobgoblin10.16.07 - 9:53 am

It's playing at the Nuart on Santa Monica (at the 405 in West L.A.)
trekkie10.16.07 - 10:02 am
reply
So Saturday matinee show at 1pm it is. Now for the ride aspect. Do we meet and ride up to the new art... which I gather to be an hour to hour 1/2 from the Wishire vermont station. Or just meet up at the Nuart and ride out to our perspective 'after rides' like scoops.

I wonder if I can take a 3 hr lunch break on satuday? nope sorry will have to see you guys at scoops

Santa Monica Blvd at the 405...doesn't seem like it's that far actually - well, from Hollywood anyway - what about a Sunset/Vermont or Sunset/Western start? Could roll down Sunset or Hollywood to Highland, Highland to Melrose, Melrose til it ends at Santa Monica/Doheny, then Santa Monica to the 405?
Or is Wilshire/Western actually closer? Time to check google maps...
trekkie10.16.07 - 1:50 pm
reply
From Wilshire/Western it's about 8 1/2 miles. From Hollywood/Highland it's about 8. Either way, assuming a medium pace and no slowpokes or major mechanicals, an hour should be plenty.
PC10.16.07 - 3:17 pm
reply
Wishire/Western is my vote. Up Wilshire to Santa Monica left to Nuart. Meet at 11:30 am Ride out at 12 sharp.... Can I get an AMEN?!!!!!!!
I have acces to lamination material. Does someone want to come up with a spoke card? Email me at.... louis.rojas@operationhope.org

For those who can't make the EARLY matinee, Tren Way's gonna do a ride to catch the 4pm showing on Saturday. We're probably gonna leave at around 2pm from somewhere on the eastside. Starting point TBD.

well shit, should we just join forces with the tren ways? (assuming that was an invite)

As long as we can make the Lights out by 7, I'm all for it. What do you think trekkie out hopefully by 6 one hour to Scoops then with just a huff of a rest... up Griffith Park. I gets tired just thinking it.

Fuck that, I want Scoops.

PC - would you be in if it was the 1pm showing then?
trekkie10.16.07 - 5:16 pm

In for the 1 PM, yes. Not just because I want Scoops, but because I'm the fool who is organizing the Lights Out! ride so I need to be there on time.

dakenzy,
i just emailed you a spoke card - pdf format, 4-up.
so maybe the 1pm showing is safer since we wanna make it back for lights out...

Why don't we do this on Sunday the 21st? The date you have is the same date and time as I got the Miraical Mile Art Extravaganzas --->
Also the number 21 was Ian's favorite number!!!
User110.16.07 - 11:27 pm

If we do it on Saturday, people have a choice. Look at art or see a movie about Ian Curtis.

can someone sneak a cam corder in the movie and bring it to lights out?
dannyzuko10.17.07 - 8:32 am

lol, Danny. Should I wear an eye patch and and a sash around my waist as my new hobby is pirating.
Lets keep this one on Saturday 1pm. Post an additional ride for Sunday.
Unless.... more people agree for Sunday by this afternoon. Let this thread speak!

i'm down for either day, or both. ha.

might I suggest an alternate route, riding on wilshire sucks, traffic sucks, the road sucks, it's hilly, and there are plenty of alternate routes to be taken.
FuzzBeast10.17.07 - 11:54 am
reply
yeah i was thinking the same thing - Wilshire Blvd. heading west from the metro station sucks balls. The entire right lane is torn up with potholes and uneven asphalt for miles at a time.
My vote is still the Hollywood to West L.A. route. Or maybe a Bike Kitchen start?
trekkie10.17.07 - 11:59 am
reply
how bout, Bike Kitchen start, west on Melrose, west on Santa Monica Blvd?
Kind of a boring route, but I think we'll wanna make it time to get seats and stuff.
Also, someone should scout Santa Monica Blvd as it gets into West L.A. I remember them doing construction between WeHo and West L.A. for years and years. Is all that shite done?
trekkie10.17.07 - 12:09 pm
reply
since we will be heading back to scoops. sounds cool. I will post the ride a little after 2pm, lets get alittle more input on riders that want to go. Start place... scoops or western/wilshire
DeKadenzy10.17.07 - 12:26 pm
reply
Well I thought if the ride was on the 21st, it would have more of an exclusive feature to it and wouldn't be competing with other rides. If Sunday turns out to be a nice day, it would be a great day to ride around Venice, SM and what not. Plus people wouldn't have to chose between rides.
I'm down for a Sunday ride, is there enough people to do a Sunday ride? Speak up or forever lose this option. Also DeKadenzy awesome spoke card! If you guys are still doing the ride Saturday, can you make some cards for the Sunday ride if we do it? I think I can do the laminating if needed.
User110.17.07 - 3:28 pm
reply
I hear ya! The date was tough. Not too many spoke for a Sunday ride. Props go more to Trekkie for the spoke card design. If you leave an email address I will ask if we can get one made up with a Sunday date too! Hell mabey I'll do both.
DeKadenzy10.17.07 - 3:46 pm

Let me know if you got cards for Sunday so I can post. Just ten need to be made. I'm going more for the exclusivity of the cards than making a pile of them.

If people don't want to take Wilshire because of the road conditions, Hollywood/Highland is actually a little closer. You just have to be able to tolerate an ugly mall and a bunch of tourists--but then, if you can't tolerate a little of that, you picked the wrong city to live in.
Saturday!
PC10.17.07 - 4:20 pm

Wilshire is a death wish past SM Blvd., and it's no picnic between downtown and SM Blvd. That said, it's a blast in heavy traffic getting to CM!!!! I love riding the streets with cars stopped like a big ass parking lot!
And of course riding in a big mob is fun toooooooooooooo!!!

I think DeKadenzy posted the Bike Kitchen as the meeting point on the ride calendar. Hmm...does everyone think an hour will be enough time?

According to Gmaps, starting at the Bike Kitchen adds two miles compared to Hollywood/Highland. Or one and a half miles compared to Wilshire/Western, but nobody wants to do Wilshire/Western.

trekkie10.17.07 - 11:14 pm
reply
Remember, the movie will be over around 3-ish, which leaves a nice gap until Scoops at 6:00. So there's probably not much need to map out a route from the theater to Hel-Mel, because we will probably be hungry (= a lunch stop), and we will also be wanting to make a market stop to pick up the delicious boxed wine. We'll likely be improvising our way back east, is what I'm saying.

RBI, alright man, price is right, let me inspect the goodies. I almost bought the repress but it comes in that big obnoxious box. Like all those Sonic Youth represses. I ain't got time for that shit.
Velvet Underground cover -- Sister Ray?
Regarding the movie/ride, y'all may want to get advance tix. I've heard a lot of chatter about this film.

@trekkie -- dood, no kidding, that LA Weekly article was a bit of a spoiler (weird to say about a film that is a true biography, but still). I started reading it, and I was like "hey, wait..." and then I remembered your post so I slammed the sonofabitch closed.
LA Weekly = spoiler. Assholes.
@studiodrome -- tonight's show is sold out. Rubbing everyone's face in it? Studiodrome = Asshole.

Hey did anyone else see the subliminal messages in the movie or was it just me? I saw where it said I had to start a Cabaret Voltaire ride. Just so happens there's a shit load of stuff out there and I happen to have a video on them too!!
Johnny Yesno is a rather 'interesting" video that's best when taken with mind altering elicit drugs. That is of course just IMHO.
You can find the info on them at Wiki
