tomorrow [wednesday] at 8pm at the santa monica pier parking lot.
i know you guys all envy the polo community in other cities, so now's your chance to make it happen here. yesterday i had a friend from milwaukee, wi message me saying that he'd be down to drive out with a team to play in some tournaments both here and in sf.
once we get enough l.a. teams established, i'd like to see some all-city tourneys with different regions representing and my friend who owns and self-operates a t-shirt brand called flyover state [http://www.flyoverstate.com/about.html] said he'd make us tshirts when the time is right.
THEN! then we can make some trips up to sf and portland for more matches...
but first, come out tomorrow night. i'm leaving from mid-city [washington and crenshaw ish] by 7:30 pm. if you'd like a ride i've got some room in my truck.

re: a question about what bike to use:::
i think the consensus is that a good polo bike is whatever you feel most comfortable maneuvering on and don't mind banging up a bit. only use as many njs parts as you have doubles of to replace the ones you'll break. every bike has its advantages:
-low gearing=fast take-off, but slow top speed
-mountain bike=better turning, but clunky and slow top speed
-gears=more shit to break, but potential to adjust speed according to situation
-track bike=more precise and higher top speeds, but also more dangerous [especially if riding brake-less] for those same reasons
-fixed=better overall control, which can be good for trackstanding in goals and hitting ball with rear wheel, but dis-advantageous for passing between wheels and for those beautiful sweeping shots with one foot on the pedals
[freewheel case in point:
]
i ride an old 53 cm (slightly small for better control) raleigh rode bike converted to single-speed with risers and a front break.

On a side note - that picture makes me miss home. Where the fuck are the cold autumn days in LA? This place sucks.

I'll be there, my polo bike is not yet complete so I must continue to destroy my once respectable mtb.

We've been having mad fun playing polo, so hopefully more folks will make it out. If you have any interest at all, show up. Don't be intimidated -- we're only out there to have fun and the more the merrier.
