Boating in LA

As I near the completion of my wooden bike trailer, since it was pretty easy to build, I was looking for another project so I settled on an 8' row/sail boat. One and a half sheets of plywood.
But where to go with it? Echo Park "lake" apparently lost its "boat concession" and Balboa park has its "lake" but neither allows the public access for boating. Where can I go with my human powered boat?
Why don't "they" allow urban boating? Are they afraid I'm going to swallow the water and die? Where are all the community activists clamoring for public access to these recreational resources?
A bike trailer for my little boat should be a snap. I gotta get ready for the big LA river regatta.

My kids got all the phones with cameras. I'll see if I can snap a few. I missed the Bike Oven's trailer building day but I thought that would have been a great event to attend.

San Pedro. Launch it from the boat launch at Cabrillo Beach and you can row/sail around the outer harbor and the marina. I would stay inside the breakwater on a small boat like that, if I were you, though.
Here's where it is.

only problem with san pedro is you run the risk of enraging some hardcore windsurfers/kiteboarders... that spot is pretty popular with them.
But otherwise, GO FOR IT!

Thanks, marina del rey I think I can manage but hauling it to San Pedro may be too much, maybe. I can almost see myself getting on/off the blue line with this setup...nice thing about <8' non-motorized boats is no need for registration.
Bike camping may be on the horizon next year. Piru? Castaic?
