Hey there is anyone planning to drive from Santa Monica to the Kitchen for the start? I want to ride the whole route, but am finishing the night in Venice at a party, so can't ride back to the Kitchen.

Kairo,
You may want to take a look at the 720 bus if you don't have a ride.

Or the 740, which is the newer and less frequent rapid that goes on Santa Monica Boulevard all the way.

The big blue #10 Santa Monica bus will get you from near the pier to down town although I'm not sure if it's as fast as th 720 or 740.

I figured I'd do what Agent Orange said -- take the #4 bus down Santa Monica Blvd from the pier to Vermont and then get off and walk the 1/2 mile to the kitchen.
I plan on leaving my bike off at the start and then drive to the pier and leave my car there. There's only room for two bikes on the bus so if I left my bike at the kitchen, I'd be pretty sure I'd get on the bus.
The 720 leaves you at Wilshire and Western so you need your bike to get to the start. The 740 goes from Hawthorne to downtown. The 704 goes down Santa Monica Blvd but quits running after 6:40pm.

Um, dude, there's not much to it. Lift bike onto bus bike rack. Secure bike to rack with thingamajig on bus bike rack. Walk on to bus. Done. If this is too much exertion for you, you may wish to consider hiring a rickshaw to carry you from the Bicycle Kitchen to the pier.

For a minute I was going to say that you could hop on the red line at W/W (where the bus would leave you off) and take it to SM/Vermont...
OH BUT WAIT!!!
Then I realized that Los Angeles actually stops running their subway lines after a certain hour. Silly me for being so spoiled in NYC.

Oh, and I'm broke and terminally unemployed. PC has a great idea there. If you can score a rickshaw, I will bring you to the pier and back.
For a nominal fee, of course, those hills on Olympic will be killer with all that dead weight back there!
