Lancey-poo is promoting cycling and bike commuting in Austin. Starting a commuters' center downtown. Neat. I kind of doubt it'll be used as such (would I stop downtown to shower and THEN take a pedicab to work? Probably not), but hopefully it'll get some attention on the matter.
They're taking former dumbwaiters and turning them into bike elevators. Repurposing old architectural elements. Yaaay!

Props! Love it or hate it he is the face of cycling to most Americans and it's good to see him devote his energy in the direction of commuting and practical cycling instead of trying to sell $10K bikes to weekend warriors. I like that he mentions Portland too.

I saw this a couple of days ago. I'm really proud of the guy for doing this. It reminded me of the LACM yahoogroup email list, from a couple of years ago. People where boosting about his consecutive wins, I replied with, what does this have to do with CM. The guy ain't coming out and riding on them, he ain't promoting bicycle commuting culture. I have accused of "hating" because of his skill, I would have never knew of him or the Tour de France, if such a big deal wasn't made about it. I didn't really care then about races, and only recently went and watched races as social event. So I didn't know the guy to be jealous of him.
But now, I hope Lance makes me eat my words of the past. If he does I will find them to be quite tasty.

TOTALLY. He could ride out the rest of his days doing Mountain Dew commercials, and instead he's doing something that actually helps get people excited about biking. Good on 'im.
I don't know Austin -- I don't know its layout, infrastructure, political landscape, if anything like getting Austin closer to a city like Portland is possible. But I love seeing people with vision do shit like this, showing people the potential for pretty big change by doing it, not talking about it. Of course, he's got a lot more power than the rest of us, being a celebrity and all, not to mention probably really freaking rich. But still.
