OK so technically it's Signal Hill and not LB's hill, we still lay claims to it! Anyways some of you have gone like a screaming banshee down this hill with us. So I thought I'd kick down a little history on the hill wit ya'll!!!
Board out of their minds

Ahhhh ...
As a child growing up in LB the Signal Hill Skateboard runs were as legendary as the urban myths of kids rolling bowling balls (stolen from Java Lanes) down Hill street.

hmmmmm......
Man if we could make some kind of speed trap, like a radar gun, I think we got ourselves an illegal dangerous night time event!

I did some reps on this hill last spring, to get ready for the Fargo Street climb.
I never niticed that "no bikes" sign.
Lots more fun going down than going up.

That's not a no bike sign. It's a no scooters, no skateboarders, and a no something else, but it ain't bikes.

I saw this story in the Sunday Times, Sports section, page D17. In the printed article, there is a photo at the bottom of the story showing a stack of signs on a pole at the base of Hill street. One of the signs showing a bike with the "cross out" circle imposed over it.
Of course, I would have ignored it even if I did see it.

No bikes.
Us Long Beach kids were blessed w/ $500 tickets last week.

I'll have to go by there and see for myself. I'll bring back visual proof. I could have sworn it allowed bikes on it.
I'm just a few miles away from this spot.

Your visual proof is in the picture above.
See the bike sign crossed out?

I was looking at the top down, not the down top. Either way, I'm curious about where and what the signage is there.

this might be off topic, but have you noticed the billboard for that new Will Smith movie, "I Am Legend" He is walking down the street with his dog, looks like New York City/Manhattan and there is a sign, with the bicycle and the red circle with the slash through the bicycle.
I know that the whole picture is computer generated to look like there has been a cat-tasrophy. Could this be somebody who doesn't like to see bikes on the road. I noticed this on the billboard on Wilshire, right before Westwood blvd, (heading west).
I was consider going to see the movie, now I'm not so sure.
I wanted to start a separate thread on it, but have yet to find a picture of the billboard on the internet.

that sign is there at the bottom so does that mean we can't go up but we can go down it?
we went down that hill in the No Regrets ride, good times

WTF is up with that pic above with the dog? A collusion between Hollywood and big oil to stamp down the bike movement perhaps?
What you said above Danny is what I think is the rules of the road here. I'll be finding out for sure tomorrow!

OK so I went to this hill today to check it out for myself, and sure enough, there's signs on both ends of this block! I never saw the signs to tell you the truth. Here's one from the bottom.....

A $500 fine is not to sneeze at. Too bad that keeps us off the hill. The decent is not very difficult for an experienced rider, but they make those laws for the most inept to aviod being sued.
Its a crying shame, thats what it is.

How do we end up doing the same things over and over again at MidnightRidazz? This site is deja vu!
We had this same discussion when Danny Zuko, did that Long Beach Ridazz ride, it was pointed out, when we went up, it was pointed out when we came down, and then talked about on this board.

Just another run that will require "look-outs" armed with talkie-walkies.
Add in some "showboaters" to draw PD away, and we'll have work cut out for a possible "bomb".

Alex I like you alot more when you're that cute little kitten! Play kitten for us!
I looked back and I couldn't find any discussion on posted signs in regards to this hill, and I also did the ride you quoted. It was the No Regrets ride. We rode down that and I was thinking it was perfectly legal. I held that belief till just yesterday. If I had that belief, I'm sure others did too. So yeah it's new news and it is relevant.
