You know.. i gotta get this off my chest.. THESE FUCKING GREEN PATHS ARE A FUCKING JOKE... the paint that was used was substandard and unacceptable! ive noticed in less than a week its already coming off...so what was the point to do this if it wasnt going to stay around for more than a week? TRYING TO SUCK UP TO THE CYCLISTS?
then on top of that.. MOTORIST STILL DRIVE RIGHT OVER IT!.. its bull shit!... now the city is painting down 4th street for what? to have them disappear in a week?
come on.. regular house paint ROLLED ON wont fucking stick around... and i didnt even go to school to know this!
i at first was all excited about this.. thinking we were moving forward.. but it was a joke.. are we a joke? i think not! I DEMAND THE CITY FIX THEIR FUCK UP AND RE DO THIS! there i said it.

The Green Lane in Long Beach has been there more than 2 years and the paint is holding up. Maybe L.A. didn't get the mix right?
The green paint is simply sharrows on steroids. The lane is still open to motor vehicles.

crazy shit!...I DIDNT know ... so whats the point of sharing the stripe if you're still going to have some asshole behind you in a 2 ton bike krusher! ..hmmm
food for thought... maybe we need protected lanes.. like k-rails.

The article I read stated that the green lane was exclusively for bikes... near intersections there is a break in the green solid lane so cars can merge to the right to make their turns. Whether or not there will be new vehicle code written to cite the violators is something I'd like to find out about.

It is indeed crazy, if some green lanes are for mixed traffic and others are solely for bikes! Nobody is going to know "who's on first".
My experience is exclusively with the short green lane in Belmont Shore. Even after 2 years, I meet cyclists who ride to the right of the lane, in a very active door zone. Often I am tailed by some ass hat in an overgrown pick up revving his (its ALWAYS a male) engine and passing me very closely to be sure I get the message that I am in his way.
So, the green lane is not very well understood yet. Seems like a lot more public outreach needs to be done.

At least they're not as bad as those green widowmaker bike lanes in Manhattan that put you right up against the curb where peds step off to hail cabs, and where everybody including the cops double parks their cars illegally...

They painted them when it was raining. The City is inflexible in time scheduling.

Boo fucking hoo!
They painted it and then it pissed down rain like a mutherfucker the next day. WAT?!!!
OH NO. DEY TOOK ER BIKE LENZ.
The lanes on 1st street are looking good, and they are done in the same style. They just went in when weather was better. So, we'll have these re-done and y'all can flick the san outta your vaginas.

haha, i saw a green lane painted over one of those rack/grill things in the street your wheels can get stuck in...took up the whole green lane.
a rider would have to swerve out of the lane to miss it, if they did, totally dangerous. I forget where.
i thought that was funny.
it was pretty obvious to me at that point that no one still gave a shit. and what a terrible color, are they trying to make people hate riders?
it's all a joke. welcome to the world.

HAHAHA!! EXACTLY
c'mon cry babies. The green lanes are awesome or they are not. Yeah, they cost more. But fuckin A don't make bike riders look like a bunch of unhappy bitches! Just keep pushing for more infrastructure. The city does get it right from time to time. These are pretty nice lanes and buffered so.... STFU and ride! :)

That strip of Spring St in DLTA is on my commute to work. Would I rather have these green painted bike lanes--or not? No question Spring Street is better with them. More bikes, and I think traffic has slowed a bit. Prior to the green, Spring St. was very unremarkable and the traffic was very accommodating to bikes. Now, however, I see many more bikes using that street, and even non-cyclists see it as a very cool thing. Perhaps that may incentivize a few of those folks to give it a whirl. It's a start.
The heavy rain on the weekend following the Friday application appears to have f-ed with the drying/curing, but the City is in the process of redoing it--perhaps in response to Aktive's OP here (Akive has a lot of juice in this City). It's looking better now than it did in the days shortly after.
Does it give cyclists unfettered license to go at top speed and ignore the traffic around them? Obviously not and you'd be a fool to rely on this or any bike lane as providing that type of protection as buses regularly cross to make stops and cars cross to access parking. You're still in a densely populated, heavy traffic urban area.
But, like any bike lane, it's a small strip of pavement dedicated to what I call the best and highest form of personal transportation--and, frankly, I'm glad to see it being recognized. Now go scream to get more of them and make them even better.

putting those island dividers would help. Like how they do in England or somewhere.
