Any Riders interested in going to this? A bunch of SD bike kids are planning on going, would love to have a bunch of ridazz join in. It's an amazing ride.

Well, there's one small conflict with this, the 15 year anniversary of Critical Mass is that same weekend in San Francisco, and that happens only once. Rosarito-Ensenada happens twice a year, I say let's do SF this time, and R-E in the spring when it rolls around again.

I'd like to check out this over the border ride.
Heard great things about it. Plus LOBSTER!
Fairly new to riding. Have some questions:
-would a new rider who can hang with the usual MR rides be able to handle these 50 miles?
-is it super fast, or it there some peeps just out for fun in the sun and beauty of the coast, with maybe some beer?
-I have an older Trek, any modifications I should do to it?
-I read the website, registration, yup. BUT like some other registration rides, do I have to have a helmet?
On a budget and this would definately be more fund friendly than a trip to SF. Did I mention LOBSTER, and btw TACOS!!!! og Ensenada FISH TACOS!!!

I went on my first Rosarito Ensenda ride this Spring after being invited by a coworker, and it was awesome. It was actually one of the things that inspired me to bike a lot more, eventually leading me down the path of learning about the Ridazz. All kinds of people were out there, from the spandex warriors forming pace lines, to hippies klunking up the mountain on beach cruisers. My personal favorite was some guy out there in a full on Sponge Bob Square Pants suit, hauling ass in what must have been one of the hottest and unaerodynamic outfits you could possibly ride on a bike. It's not an easy ride, at least not the big mesa in the middle, but it seemed like a ride where every one sets their own pace.

Pace: go at your own, because there are some hills and valleys...if you tank out early, it will be no fun to ride in 90 degree weather while trying to recover... there are riders of all kinds... speedsters, slow moving targets, everything...
Bicycle: make sure you tune your bike up...the last thing you want happening is a breakdown on one of the hills
Helmet: required
Drinking: do it in a subtle way...they've pretty much outlawed people having bottles of beer on the ride (at least I didn't see any last September)
Finish: there are fish tacos and plenty of beer at the end (bring cash)

thanks for the 411, I really appreciate it.
sounds like I can't miss any upcoming rides in order to be in total shape for it.
I'd like to do SF, I know what they have done for this movement and give respect, but funds are tight and I'm a little concerned about riding those big ass hills in SF. I know I sound like a punk, but I'm new at this. Also I think I can find a friend or two to go with me south rather than north. I know a bunch of taco addicts.
RIDE ON!!!

P-3000: The people that take this ride seriously and treat it like a race are tools. There are plenty of people who go and do what they're supposed to: enjoy it.
Pace yourself and have fun. If you don't go harder than you're accustomed to, you can easily do 50 miles.
The true test, however, is how much fish tacos and beer you can consume along the way.

Flickr Set: Rosarito to Ensenada Trip (135 Images)
Here's pics I took after the ride. I had left my camera with the truck, and the group I was with needed to get back soon, so these pictures are more a snapshot of Baja, from inside a car going down the highway. Most of these images were shot at ultra fast shutter speed to prevent motion blur in spite of the traveling speed.

I went on my first R 2 E this past sept...I didn't know what to expect. I did know from my friends that have already done it that there was a 2 mile hill with a 7.5% grade. I'm not used to climbing. luckily done some (not very much) climbing around where I live. I would suggest you do some riding at least a month before going to train a little. I walked up some of the hill not much. Just make sure your in the right gear for climbing. All in all I had a great time, I completed the 50 mile ride and was not shamed by having to ride in the "SAG WAGON". Here is a pic of my cousin and two other friends after the ride. Oh and you get a medal as a souviener. a momento of your 50 mile trek.
