Fuck it, I'm down for a camping trip people, not to mention this is still within the confines of my "don't-venture-beyond-until-driving-a-rig-again-zone".

I might be bringing a couple of guys I work with, assuming they can get their shit together and buy some bikes, or maybe find someone they can loan from, but there's three of them I'm trying to get, all or none may go. I'll update when I know for sure.
@benstrdier
One of the guys that really wants to go used to drive a rig, tons of good stories, I'm sure you guys will get along great if not for that then cause he's a great guy.

It may be tough to bring bikes to loan out there. Try to get your friends interested enough and bug their neighbor to loan a bike.

Wait why was I thinking I needed, like, thicker tires for this one? Would 23mm road tires be good on this one?! Why am I suddenly all confused. I just know I'm going... YOAH!

@Joe
Normally I would, and have been, but I'm the only one out here with a MTB, everyone else ( the 4 other regular rideres out here) have $$$$$$$$ Road bikes and wont loan them out. One guy has a bike he bought for his ex-wife but she never rode it so he's looking ot sell it, otherwise there just aren't many people with bikes, well the pedal kind anyways. I'll keep bugging them. Also the only bike store near here, about 30 miles away with the next closest one being 50 miles away burnt down the other day, so there aren't any local stores now.

@NeverClever
23's should be good. The roads aren't the best, they've seen some bad weather, not Wilshire bad but there is a lot of tar repair and it's just rough in general due to sand storms, hot sun, ect. I just ride MTB for the vesatility and extra work.
dolamyte04.7.08 - 4:23 pm

yeah, they will be able to ride on beach cruisers if they wanted to...
Joe Borfo04.7.08 - 4:26 pm

is this ride doable on the tall fixie? If so someone can ride my other fixie.
brassknuckle04.7.08 - 4:29 pm

I think they'd settle for any bike at this point, but a cruiser wouldn't be so bad.

Brass. I say yes. but am I going to have to schlepp it? Ahhhh!
Joe Borfo04.7.08 - 4:37 pm

if towlies can take it in the uhaul then we are fine.
brassknuckle04.7.08 - 4:43 pm

But how is he going to fit my supper giant brass truck balls?
Joe Borfo04.7.08 - 4:44 pm

I'm thinking of going fixed division with Midori on 25mm Gator Skinz for this one... ooh!
I ask 23mm for E because 650Cs don't tend to come in anything thick really but her 23mm Gator Skins are pretty meaty and somewhat thick so her bike should be fine. I guess I more wondered about off-road applications.
YOAH!
also, I think Kabuki Sky should be on this ride...
CAN'T WAIT SO MUCH I DON'T KNOW WHERE I'M SLEEPING!

Someone can ride Kabuki Sky If you'd like to and are nice to her.
Looks like I'll be taking the tandem cause I just got confirmation on taking
#19. Maria

Exactly. I ride 25s out there but mtn bike tires are srsly more comfy. The asphalt between the start and the turnaround (10 miles out, 10 miles back) is in decent shape, the asphalt between camp and the start (2.5 miles) is a little chunkier but still better than the potholes on the streets of LA.
There is a freak bike award so I'll make a priority for freak bikes in the Uhaul.
Awards are:
Hi hand freewheel
Lo hand freewheel
Hi hand fixed
Lo hand fixed
Hi hand freak
Sign up on the Google group if you're interested, next week I'll probably ask for a final hands up on who's going so we can greet all arrivals with an imaginary gift bag and a real beer. Valet parking will be available.
I was in Joshua Tree last weekend, it was beautiful during the day and chilly at night. Amboy is lower and a bit warmer so I'm expecting high 80s in the middle of the day and really nice at night.
Unfortunately the wildflowers of a few weeks ago are mostly gone now:
Next year I think I'm going to move up the weekend so we can take advantage of possible flowers.
On Sunday we'll be checking out
Amboy Crater.

Cool.
I'll most likely be using my foldable, Hummer that everyone pretty much already knows about.
This area kind if reminds me of this place called, "Afton Canyon", off of the 15N.
The Mojave River actually flows at its highest here, and this was the first place I've experienced, total, dead silence.

Trolls Under Bridges is for real! I heard them out in the desert coming back from Bombay Beach at night on the Salton Sea trip.
I love riding solo in desert over bridges!
Scares the fuck out of you the first time though.
