Spanning History: Bridges of the Los Angeles River (panel discussion at the Getty Center)
Ride to the Getty Center on April 10 from Red Line station Hollywood & Highland at 6pm sharp!
This is reservations only as requested by the Getty. I've made reservations for 15. Let's get some idea how many are going that way we can make reservations for more if needed.
More on the panel discussion below and
here,
Explore the historic bridges of the Los Angeles River with this two-part event organized by the Getty Conservation Institute in partnership with the Los Angeles Conservancy and Friends of the Los Angeles River.
Built between 1910 and 1940, these bridges are monumental in design and massive in scale, even by today's standards. Together, they tell an important part of the story of how Los Angeles came of age as a major modern city at the beginning of the 20th century.
On January 30, 2008, the Los Angeles City Council approved the designation of several Los Angeles River bridges as Historic-Cultural Monuments (HCMs), recognizing them as important to the history of our city.

Oh heck I tried to load up the info on the ride and it had a problem. It was my end where the problem was as I was downloading a bunch of crap. Anyways I lost everything, I'll redo it tomorrow, too freakin late tonite.
It's about a 11.5 mile ride and real simple. South on Highland, right on Santa Monica, right on Sepulveda.

what about going west in the SFV, then south on Sepulveda?

Hey kids,
I got the confirmation back from Getty Museum. There's good news and bad. The good news is we were accepted in, the bad news is we have to get there early. I say we take half the day off and get there even earlier and see some of the exhibits. There's some video exhibits that sound good, and there's some goat dance too! I'm always down for a good goat dance, so let's make this an early day ride. Yes? I'll do what the majority wants, my vote is for a early ride and possibly catch a tour around 3pm. So I was thinking leaving the Red Line station around 1pm or so.
Majority rules so have at it. So what do you think? Early? Late?
Here's the schedule for the day at the Getty
Here's the email sent.................
Your reservation for Spanning History: The Bridges of the Los Angeles
River at the Harold M. Williams Auditorium, Getty Center on Thursday
April 10, 2008 is confirmed for 15 people. For Villa events, tickets
will be mailed prior to the event's scheduled date. For Getty Center
events, no tickets are necessary.
The event begins at 7 pm.
Event reservations are honored until 15 minutes before the start of
the program and doors open 30 minutes prior.
Parking is $8 per car and is payable when you arrive.
Thank you and enjoy your visit,

Hey gang,
The ride has been posted. I haven't posted a start time cause I wanted more feedback. My vote is to go there early and see some of the videos that are on exhibit.
From the Getty.........
See over 70 videos in this first major survey of California video art from 1968 to today. Explore how artists have used video as sculpture, as political statement, and as extension of live performance. Provocative and philosophical, haunting and hilarious, the works featured in this exhibition provide a sampling of the rich history of video art. "A must-see," says the L.A. Times.
Preview excerpts from more than 50 videos on the exhibition Web site.

My vote is leave around 3pm.

I posted a 6pm start time before I got this from the Getty,
The event begins at 7 pm.
Event reservations are honored until 15 minutes before the start of
the program and doors open 30 minutes prior.
Parking is $8 per car and is payable when you arrive.
So if we are having to get there early, if we are following the Getty's policy above, why not just get there a couple of hours early and see some of the other stuff there?
I did screw up and posted a 6pm start time at the top of this thread. I got to learn to avoid things like that. I will go with what everyone else agrees on. I'm voting for a 3pm roll time.

Foods not that bad at the Getty. Also it matters what time we are rolling to consider a food stop. Powerbar then a food stop rolling back is another option. I'm still for rolling there at 3pm.

I'll have to ditch one of my classes to even make this. Is this still considered rush hour or am I going to have problems taking the gold line to the red line to get there, leaving at 5pm. For those who missed this, the panel presentation was very interesting, the ride up was fun, with a nice, mild climb up Sepulvada and there was FREE BEER after the event.
All that and no charge for bike parking.
Let's do this again, during regular Getty hours. Of course, there won't be any free beer, unfortunatly.
Creative Thing04.11.08 - 11:36 am

Free beer and cheese for the rats! The Getty did it up right. We're talking Heineken, Sierra Nevada, and some other import. The hall was about 80% to capacity. I felt really guilty leaving while there was still some beer there.
Thanks for going every two ridazz!
