The Unemployed Ride
Thread started by
hatehills at 02.6.08 - 1:08 pm
You ain't got no job...You ain't got shit to do.
This ride is a tribute to all the jobless muthafuckas on Midnight Ridazz. We will ride through some of the most affluent parts of Los Angeles and flaunt our unemployededededness in the faces of people spending $17 for a cocktail. If you have a job, you're invited too...you're invited to buy the rest of us drinks.

If you people habitually show up as late for work as you do for rides, no wonder most of you don't have jobs.

Sorry, JC. I didn't see you'd put a date to the Unemployed Ride already, nor did I see the calendar event -- I thought it was a totally different thread for a ride without a date yet.
This is what I get for doing two things at once.

you can call the vietnamese line and play dumb (oh sorry oopps) they will transfer you, you'll get through.

If you hear "thank you for calling the edd"-hang up
If you hear "welcome to the edd" ...to short cut the menu it is 1.2.1.1.7
It usually takes about 15 tries, but you will get through. You just have to dedicate a half hour of speed dialing.
Good LUCK !!!!!

You should call it the unemployed/underemployed ride. Since some people are employed but make so little that they might as well be unemployed.
I vote for a Circle of Death in Beverly Hills.

as
mandigo mangina says, the circle of death needs to happen in the daytime on a weekday

What Dingo said. The ride should start at about 10 on a weekday morning and should take you to an EDD office, a pawn shop, Nix Check Cashing, and the home of somebody's weed connection. It should then end at about 1 PM, at somebody's apartment, with a marathon session of smoking out and watching daytime TV talk shows and career college commercials. "Just make the call! You on the phone all day anyway. Why you gotta make it complicated? It's simple!"

Can a unicycle rider not join the Tandem Ride?
Can a person with no love in their heart not join the Valentine's Ride?
We should not exclude anyone just because they're gainfully employed. Besides, we need them to buy drinks for the rest of us...duh.

Another reason to ride Saturday night down Sunset Blvd, is to show the gainfully employed, and those who are unemployed but charging up their credit cards, that it can cost less than one drink at the Standard, Red Rock, the Sky Bar, Cabo Cantina or Bar Marmount to party all night on a bike.

Sir Harry doesn't have internet since he is in the process of moving in. He does have the trailer too.

The actual Unemployment ride should definitely take place in the early afternoon (like 1pm) during the middle of the week (like Wednesday).
The ride on Saturday should be the Job-Fair ride, and some of the folks with jobs should bring applications and such for where they work. The should & could swing by some of the Day Labor camps at Home Depots, etc.

Being unemployed is awesome til you run out of shit to do during the day. Riding your bike for hours a day, everday over the same terrain gets a bit tiring.
Last night I was rummaging through the garbage cans at echo park lake and decided I should have just collected junk while I was unemployed. Scrap metal, old keepsakes, food. You name it.

Epilogue.
Hey guys This is David, I just want to give an update on Fernando (Mr Southern Comfort).
We ended up chilling on that corner for an hour before I could get his ass to Astro burger on Melrose, where by coincidence, I ran into a friend with a hatchback who was grabbing a meal. I managed to get a ride for Fernando and myself with him.
Sadly in that hour I managed TO GET MY BIKE STOLEN (I was too busy chasing fernando accross a busy street that I didn't like down my bike properly and in that hour, some guy came by and cut my cable.
MY BIKE WAS STOLEN. I had fernando dropped off at his place with a note about what happened last night, and the remenents of my bike cable in case he doesn't remember.
I need your help. I'm gonna be scouring EBAY and craigslist for a 60 cm 2006 redline 925 fixed gear with Bullhorn bars and tektro brakes on the ends and without fenders.
If you see anything about this on those websites please email me at

I would like to say thanks to everybody who showed up! I didn't know how the turnout would be since I posted the ride only a few days ago, but we had a great number of people! This was my first time leading a ride, so it meant a lot to see so many folks show up!
The Crank Mob cop (Rusty?) saw us off!! And he wants us to come do a tribute ride for a fellow cyclist cop who got killed. We told him to post it here on MR and he said he would! Nicest cop in the LAPD.
Sorry we lost a few peeps on Sunset Blvd. Traffic was a little hairy, hope everybody made it back ok.
I hope you all enjoyed the ride! One girl told me it was her very first MR ride...that made me happy :)
David, I really hope you get your bike back!

A gentleman(woman?) was kind enough to post this in another thread I put on the board. My bike is like this except that it has bullhorn bars with tektro breaks, fenders removed and there is a chain/innter tube securing the seat to the bike, (underneath the seat the chain is cushioned by red duct tape wrapped about the chain).
