... A ride along the beach to start the case study. This ride is being hosted by a group of Architecture-and-Bicycle Enthusiasts and IS NOT TO BE MISSED! Its a rare chance to see some of these places with knowledgeable Ridazz!

Architecture Ride on Saturday, January 24th.
East Siders meet at Intelligentsia Coffee and Tea, 3922 W Sunset Blvd, 8:30am , roll out at 9:00am.
West Siders meet at Clover Park in Santa Monica, 2600 Ocean Park Blvd, 9:45am, roll out at 10:15am.
We need to arrive at the Mar Vista Tract at 10:30am (corner of Palms Blvd and Beethoven).
The ride will be on the Westside, we start off with Gregory Ain's Cast Study Houses in the Mar Vista Tract and we want to end the ride with a tour of the Eames Case Study house in the Palisades.
The Case Study Houses were experiments in American residential architecture sponsored by John Entenza's (later David Travers') Arts & Architecture magazine, which commissioned major architects of the day, including Richard Neutra, Raphael Soriano, Craig Ellwood, Charles and Ray Eames, Pierre Koenig and Eero Saarinen, to design and build inexpensive and efficient model homes for the United States residential housing boom caused by the end of World War II and the return of millions of soldiers. The Eames' CSH #8 was assembled by hand labor in about three days.
The program ran from 1945 until 1966. The first six houses were built by 1948 and attracted more than 350,000 visitors. While not all 36 designs were built, most of those that were constructed were built in Los Angeles; a few are in the San Francisco Bay Area, and one was built in Phoenix, Arizona. A number of them appear in iconic black and white photographs by architectural photographer Julius Shulman.
Of equal importance on the same street in Mar Vista is Gonzo's pool. Skated in the 70's - current day by the local Dogtowners. go to the 1 min. mark for the worst acting prize to Ray Flores. the whole Skateboard Kings video has some GREAT footage of venice beach and surrounding areas from 1978 or so...

i hope there's a good turn out for this. it sounds awesome. i'll be at the caturday ride but wish i could ride both at the same time. i've always wanted to see those houses.

I just wanted to touch base with everyone regarding the weather. If the rain continues to keep up, I think given the topography, it may not be a good idea to ride tomorrow. Look for a post in the morning as to weather or not the ride is a go. Figure if nothing is posted by 8am the ride is still a go. Otherwise I'll let you know.

I so wish this wasn't in conflict with the Creek Freak ride. There has been a dearth of rides with a more intellectual focus since ride arc went on hiatus and now there are two good ones at the same damn time. I'm shooting for this one, but if I can't drag ass out of bed on time, I guess I'll do the other.
Its a little before 6 right now, and I've rolled over to the pitter patter of the heavens raining down on our parade. I checked the forecast and it seems like its not going to get any better, so lets figure its a no go for today. I apologize for this being so last minute, but I was just stubbornly holding out until the last minute, praying this wouldnt happen. I'd rather we do this on a day which doesn't compromise our safety or the views which some of these locations have. What's everyone's thoughts on next weekend? The weather is supposed to be better by then (clearing up by Wednesday it looks like). Let me know what you guys think
Lucky yous, if your back-up plan is ANOTHER ride! My back-up plan is "working"... aka drinking too much coffee, lusting for bikes we do not carry and I that couldn't afford even if we did! Ride safely today!! Hopefully this ride will be rescheduled for NEXT SAT!?! WANT!
So if I am trying to get some non-riders to join in, do you think they'll be able to keep up? What's the average pace going to be? (estimate w/ mph or compare to other rides plz)

With the Eames Foundation, there is a suggested contribution/donation of $5.00 per person, but free to student with current valid IDs, seniors (62+), and children under 12 years of age. With the exception of the Mar Vista Tract, we're only allowed to see the exteriors of these houses.
the ride was great....met a few ridazz, saw some awesome interiors of 2 mar vista tract homes, had some really good pizza....thanks for putting this on.. the weather was the best i've seen in l.a. in about 6 months.
