In the spirit of biking on the freeway and bike to work week...
had anyone heard of/participated in this awesome event from a few years ago.
Arroyofest
it was organized in large part by a professor at Occidental college....i wonder if he would like some help planning another one?
:)
We have freeways, why not have bikeways?!
Live the dream!!

I was there. It was cool but not as cool as the rides we have every week.
I did the walking part. The biking part was at 7am.
The whole thing was over by 10AM
They had some kind of metered entrance.
Bikes at 7am
Walkers at 8:30am and 9:00am Then no more.
It cost $10/person to enter
It took two years to organize.
It cost $230,000 not including donated materials and labor.
The organizers ended up $30,000 in the hole.
Yes it was a non profit event but some organizers had loaned money from their credit cards to make the event happen.
IMHO
Less organizing = More F.U.N.

I'd rather put the effort in (re)creating a permanent dedicated bikeway along the freeway from Pasadena to Downtown instead of a token 3 hour event every few years.

wurd. marino, you've got a good idea there. why not try to do another big swell for something more permanent....?
ah, remember the pasadena cycleway?
since we all know the sad tale of its demolition.
still, I wish i got to ride on the 110.
Lucky marino gets to do all the good stuff in life!!

Screw the cycleway! It takes all the benefits of cycling, and turns it into another isolating experience, similar to car travel, or a ride on the L.A. River bike path.
On-streets bicycle facilities, on major thoroughfares that have had freeways installed next to them, will do the job nicely.
Instead of ArroyoFest (which was a neat idea) - the organizers should focus on turning Figueroa Street into a bicycle and pedestrian paradise.
The freeway is for cars, the streets are for people.

Captain Sharrowzz saves democracy!!!!!!!!
remind me to tell the Cap't when I see him, that there is another push in the DIY field that may very well be of interest to the Cap't......
keepin it vague kids.
keeping it vague.
i STILLLLLLLL wish i could have ridden on the 110!!
And in addition to bikeways, bike boulevards, bike lanes and bike routes, wouldn't it also be good to have a physically separated bike lane running parallel to all the major freeways in LA?
I'm just sayin... :)

The 110 is still there, you still have a bike, I would assume you still ride it.
What is stopping you from riding on the 110?

You gais are brave. I don't even feel safe in a car on the 110 much less a bike.
Making Figeuroa more bike and pedestrian friendly is a great idea! We can start just by asserting our right to the right lane and be as visible and fucking sexy as possible.

3am, we will definitely get killed. How about 3:45 - 4:00am.
That or when traffic is at a stand still like 4:30pm, that sound a little more safe to me. Either way I'm down to risk my life.
