everyone needs to spend at least a day in jail... it gives you a thankful feeling towards being outside.

Indeed, well put! A few long hours is enough for most of us.

yeah right, what time period was that? 1954. I know with all the crime bill money Clinton throw at all the LE agency, there is still one that uses black and white photography without the agency name underneath, and a six digit booking number. You just happen to get a copy like that through a foia request.
I must say, that is some good photography for a local jail mug shot.
sexy10.23.07 - 8:31 pm

Last time I went to jail, the guy who took my mug shot was a Ralph Nader fan--he had Nader campaign stickers and shit posted in the photo room--and we had a nice conversation about his candidate and politics in general, in among the usual "face me...now face your left...no, your other left...now face right" stuff.
The picture actually looked pretty cool, but I wasn't allowed to keep it.
PC10.23.07 - 11:50 pm

Last time I was in jail, they took my photographs with a 20D. That's one of the same camera's I use with my photography company. Good quality photos come cheap these days.
Hell, my phone has 4 mega pixels. That's about 20 times better than a film camera. And twice as good as most pocket digitals. In fact, the next phone I'm buying has a 10 megapixel camera. My 20D has 8.
Samsung knows what's up! Now I just have to wait until it's available in the U.S.

No more camera talk? OK, so what do we talk about? Riding up hills? This one time I was riding up a hill, and I pedalled with my right leg, and then with my left leg, and it was hard.
Yeah, great suggestion... this conversation just got REALLY interesting...
Get back to work cole.

Studiodrome, do you think this is actually do-able on a fixed gear? Has anyone accomplished one of these fixed before?
I AM TRAFFIC -- yeah, K-barbie tonight! Bring the yuks. You too studio.

-YES IT IS IMPOSSIBLE ON A FIXED GEAR...
-NO ONE HAS EVER DONE IT...
-Though a shitload of people made it up nichols canyon on fixed gears
to mullholland, including you...
I don't want to dare myself into doing it but maybe we'll eventually do a fixed gear only mulholland massacre.
I recommend adding a temp brake if you are an anti brake nazi... Baxter almost rode off a cliff last time and he had 2 brakes. But I suppose thats what happens when you go around suicide corner as fast as you can and hit a shitload of gravel...

City Hobgoblin10.24.07 - 2:56 pm

I believe I am too apathetic to know hatred toward anyone. Thinking about it from a distance i probably truly hate myself. Though I also hate my father. Therefore, I will ride a track bike on Mullholland Massacre...
studiodrome10.24.07 - 4:01 pm
reply
Is zen the same as apathy? Either way, this is going to be a very interesting ride.
I talked to Jakob, and he's in, so we will be hearing some German swear words on the climbs.
Set a date yet? 17th or 24th?

and thats one of many climbs... there is also a 6 mile section of downhill with deadly cliffs...
ride will be around 100 miles
i'll be doing a fixed gear only MASSACRE after this one...
but on November 17th i'm riding a road bike...

yo studio would you say the right gearing would be?
skano10.25.07 - 1:31 pm

Gearing is hard to say, I was thinking below 70 gear inches, so was considering a 48 front 19 in the back.
definitely field test some long climbs before the ride, up and down...
would consider a flip flop hub with something for downhill

this ride is this weekend. i'm probably not ready to do it and neither are you so lets go for it. i might post the ride in advance.
probably around 100 miles but maybe 80 miles, the distance isnt really of concern...
studiodrome11.12.07 - 10:38 am

This is a request to start the ride one hour earlier 10 am. Ten at Tangâs just sounds better.
wise11.13.07 - 8:35 am
reply
umm no thanks to 10 a.m.
the ride is shorter than last time by a bit
only 75 miles this time
meet at 10:45 and leave at 11:00 a.m.
if you are a very, very strong fixed gear rider this route is possible...
this will be a fun ride, good pace but not insane
will finish at Pureluck and Scoops

11 am & 75 miles sounds good. We will probably still have daylight at the end, yeah?
City Hobgoblin11.13.07 - 11:02 am
reply
i'd love it if there were daylight still.
75 miles i think will be perfect this weekend
you can run 75 miles on guts
yuo can run 75 miles with a hangover
though there are hills

not quite sure how many people are going to show.
possibly many neato bicycle people.
as per usual on the MASSACRE
all types of riders.
sportos, neards, spandex, jeans, enviros, weirdos, metalheads, etc...
though this is not a beginners ride.
be in somewhat lively shape.
bring confidence.
bring tubes.
tune bike.
will easily be able to do crank mob after the ride with many resting times and food times to spare.

i know this is yr ride, but c'mon...let's do 10. you know we won't start by 11 and with all the climbing it will probably take 6 hrs. i def don't want to be decending to pch in the dark or really consider that as a possibility, nor do i wan't to be sweating my nipples off in the valley at 2:30 if its hot. can we get a vote. sorry to be a soiler but morning is a good time to ride.

Roadblock11.13.07 - 3:04 pm

only 6 miles in the valley this time at mile 21 through 27
meet at 10:45 leave 11:00
also the overall route is 75 miles and will be a nice paced ride.
also come prepared we are not waiting very long for really slow people and people with broken bikes.
if there is an overwhelming amount of people who want to ride at 10
i'm not flexible. especially if its only from 2 of the fastest riders on wolfpack.
but please keep the requests coming, i'll post the route soon.

Although this looks like a good ride I am a little disappointed that there are not really any death inducing climbs. Is anyone interested in riding the route twice. I think if we leave by about 6:30 am we could do a test run and make it back to Tangâs by 11 am. I mean this is a âmassacreâ.
wise11.16.07 - 1:13 am
reply
For the record: I too supported the earlier start idea.
However: Now that I see how intransigent Mr S is on the notion it seems like a moot point. Plus: at 3/4 of a century there should be enough daylight anyway. I am certainly in and will see all you sucka's tomorrow at Tangs for the "beat down" if not the full on "massacre" I had originally expected. Wise, you're nuts and I salute you. I won't be doing the route twice tomorrow, but would be floored if you did. Thanks for all the leg-work Studiodrome and I look forward to the ride. That is all.
adamthelizard11.16.07 - 7:31 am

we all just did the wolfpack century
so i said fuck it, 100 miles is fun but not essntial to the Massacre
this time. some of us who have nothing to prove for the time being wanna ride hard and crazy but also want to party hard on the weekend.
Also i rather see more people than a bunch of spandex nazis massaging their testicles with diaper butter on this ride.
this route will indeed be difficult, but everybody is invited from losers to idiots to assholes to smiling happy shiny people. which I already know we have a good mix of...
also after this ride, as long as you're not a lazy piece of shit or as long as you dont have to wake up at 5 a.m. on sunday to meet you're spandex brothers and sisters to ride 60 miles in 2.25 hours with a fleet of weekend warriors who know exactly how many calories they are burning, well then you'll be good to go for all night saturday night parties after this beautiful and seductive nov 17th Massacre of 2007.

i think we'll stop like 3 times probably around every 20 miles.
i believe the first stop is wholefoods on ventura blvd valley.
about 25 miles in...
also for you people who have thanked me for organizing this ride but at the same time asked me to change stuff go fuck your manipulative self... it took me 10 minutes to figure out this route and i don't even know if its any good...
there should be good company though and a bunch of suicidals riding fixed gears in the mountains... gotta love this antithesis to car culture, huh?
also dont be shy wear gloves and helmets if you want.
