Well, this is better put...what were his injuries? How is he doing? Will he be able to pull ALC? How long until he's back up to speed?

Fractured collarbone. Doc said to stay off a bike for 6-8 weeks, but it's Dannyzuko. We're going to make sure he's there.

Dude...it's Danny. Must I say more?
tern05.11.08 - 1:24 pm

The doctor said 6-8 weeks
Don't push him to ride in 3 weeks. That's macho BS that could fuck him up permanently.
He could do
Ragbrai on July 25 instead of ALC. Same number of days, same distance, more people, a heck of a lot cheaper.

I saw Danny last night at the Oven. He said he would have a good idea after he sees the doctor on Monday. My bet is on him being on the ride.
Wasn't there a rider on the Tour de France race a few years back that broke his collar bone on the first days of the tour? He was one of the riders favored to win the race. He continued the race with a broken collar bone and finishes 3rd. I think this was also an American racer.

yeah, we were talking about that when we were waiting for Danny's ride to the hospital. But the thing is, that came up: not all collar bone injuries are alike/

Hey guys, really great to see you at the oven last night, I'm ok, the pain is not that bad, I wasn't the only one that took a fall on Friday night, I hope everyone is well,
As far as prognosis, I'm sure I'll have a better idea of what im going to be capable of doing after I see the ortho docs Monday, I'm ok with not being able to ride in the ALC this year. I'd still like participate in the event if possible.
Thanks everyone who helped me and those who had issues on the ride, and borfo for leading people back to civilization. i hope you all had a great ride despise our hiccups,

I broke my collar bone 33 years ago (on a bike, of course).
They don't set the bone, its too soft. It healed with one part fusing over the other part. It still feels like baby back ribs.

I think we all know you well enough to assume you'll find a way to do ALC with us... even if it means we stick you in a side car... or tandem... or bike car... and take turns helping you out. (and even then you'll probably try hijacking the ride up some ridiculous mountain... er.. i mean... speed bump). We love you Danny!!!

We all wish you a speedy recovery, but don't risk prolonging your injury or making it something worse if the doctor strongly advises against riding. We want to be able to ride with you in the future too. Remember the future.
Meghan and I were glad we could be there for you, but I'd hate to see a Danny goes to the hospital 2.0.
There is a Den Dinner thread about calcium rich foods somewhere, after stevestevesteve's injury. That might be a good place to start in optimizing your diet for healing.

Danny,
What did the doc say? Hopefully it was good news, yeah?
User105.13.08 - 12:41 pm
reply
"What did the doctor say?"
You AL and your belief in science.
Do you think a doctor can tell you an exact date within the near future when the bone is healed? Healing is a process. The body is not a computer. Reboot. Restart.
Danny already answered the question. He'll ride when he is healed.
When is someone healed?
1. When they feel like it.
2. When the X-Rays show that the bones have bonded.

OK Dr. Marino, what's the prognosis? How long you think he'll be MIA? BTW, what kind of doctor are you? Do you know a good voodoo doctor? I know a few ridazz I wouldn't mind casting a spell on, if you know what I mean.
