here is a copy of the email i just sent to the mayor's office.
feel free to use or copy any/all of it...and CALL IN!!!!!
Dear Mayor's Office,
I am writing to ask that the Mayor please support cycling in the upcoming U.S. Conference of Mayor's Annual Meeting.
The cyclists of Los Angeles would LOVE to see our Mayor take the lead on bicycling as a viable mode of transportation.
Cyling also produces benefits in the areas of health and congestion as well as providing relief to those struggling with rising gas prices.
I personally would encourage him to take the lead of three very notable LA City Councilmembers: Tom LaBonge, Eric Garcetti and Ed Reyes, all of whom have demonstrated an inspirational level of understanding about the potential benefits of biking in an urban environment.
Thank you!!! Let's go GREEN L.A.!

that's awesome that LaBonge came out for 4sbb..... so what is the status with that? is anything being done? how about Universal's blockage of the public right of way along the LA river? that is in LaBonge's district.... I mean, these politicians show up for the photo op and they talk about how much they support bicycles.... but how do we know they are creating action to the best of their powers - or even at all?
talk is cheap.
action speaks.

pressure must be applied at all times by US to Tom LaBonge, Eric Garcetti, Ed Reyes and then everyone else.
that is why we need a BIKE SUMMIT so hard core.
we have political power to leverage and it is about time we start leveraging it!!!
we also must ACT!!!!
and actually, every time i talk, the person i am speaking with is automatically billed for my time. And my rates are going UP!!

what I learned from the Griffith Park meetings....... the style is to drag on and on talking and talking about this and that in the process wearing out the public's will for involvement. I gave it a good 5 month run and learned that the issue was on the table for a year and a half prior and is STILL going on a year later... seems to me it's real simple. no means no. Griffith gave that land to the public. it should not be used for private companies to profit from - yet there everyone was talking about some plan that was concocted by some company that was hired by some mysterious process to "improve" griffith park. improve meaning turn it into a city walk like place.... and I'm sure they are still talking about it instead of just saying FUCK NO the park is a PUBLIC freeking park. LEAVE IT BE.

i can't help but chuckle again, along with mr. rollers after reading last sunday's bike article in the times....
Another run at biking in L.A.
"Midnight rides, many organized spontaneously and sometimes willing to be disruptive to lay claim to the streets, have become a monthly occurrence in some neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles."

yo roadblock!
can we make a special form thing somewhere on this site that we could use to collect signatures for petitions like this or like mihai's police complaint form?? then we could send one document with a long list of supporters easily to the mayors office and to all city councilmembers offices....
something really easy to plug into that could generate proof about how many bikers that vote are out there and willing to pressure their city officials for better bike infrastructure....
that would be so, SO S.W.E.E.T.!

just got off the phone with the SM mayors assistant, she said that they usually attend, but due to a conflict in local mtgs, santa monica will not be represented. She did say that for anyone who's mayor isnt attending can write a letter and fax it directly to the US conference of mayors. So, if you live in SM or another city who's mayor isnt going, do your part and write a quick letter and fax it straight to them. she told me i might want to call first and let them know who i am and why im sending it. they are in DC so, first thing tomorrow, call then fax.
