Wise: lucky to be alive

Although this was not the first time that I have been hit by a car on my bicycle, it was the first time that I could not just get up and ride away. Thursday 6:30 pm the Cahuenga pass heading south on my way home from work, some asshole thought it would be a good idea to turn left in front of me as I went through a green light. More or less it was like riding into a wall. I am lucky that I was riding much slower than usual on this stretch of road. I was going about 16 mph, there are times that I ride this road at 35-40 mph. My only major injury is a very large fracture to my left shoulder blade. This means six to eight weeks immobilized. So you won’t see me on Wolfpack for some time. This really pisses me off because over the last year and a half the Hustle has become a big part of my life. Out of all the rides and races I do every week Wolfpack is always the highlight. Unfortunately I will not be able to have my hundredth ride coincide with the two-year anniversary, as I had wanted. Anyway for the next month or two I guess I’ll have to survive on the memories of my first 77 hustles. I love you all, even the newbies. In a couple weeks when I am a little better I’ll stop by Tang’s on a Monday to say hi to everyone.

Whoa wise... I'm glad to hear it's not any worse than the large fracture.... which sounds very painful. Were you able to get the driver to stop and like a police report? I wouldn't know what to do (god forbid) when I get into an accident. Heal up wise!

bummer to hear about your crash, aaron. will you be riding in bandages like cole, or are shoulder blades worse than collar bones?

sorry to hear this. i hope it heals fast.
those left turner's man, that is the dumbest situation on the streets. That is always why I almost get hit...
+1 on harry's comment: we should all assume we're invisible. oh yeah, and talk to drivers about accidents like this, and maybe they'll slowly get it stuck in the head to look out for cyclists.

Jeez Aaron.
Very sorry to hear about this, yet happy you're alive.
+1 more on the info... I sure hope this f*&^%er stopped.
Eat plenty of calcium-rich, dark-green leafy vegetables.
Build that bone back up and you'll be rolling in no time.
Again, glad you are (mostly) in one piece.

heal up soon! i got hit today too but it was minor. a stupid bitch was driving out of a driveway in her new lexus and didn't even bother to roll slowly and look for traffic- she just zoomed out and i hit my breaks quickly but still scratched up the front of her car. i cussed at her and took off. lucky it wasn't worse.
yours sounded scary so i'm glad you're okay. were you wearing a helmet? rest up ..

Noooooo! Wolfpack won't be the same without you, nor will the post-'pack ride home. Heal quickly and come back soon. I'll be thinking of you (and probably applying the brakes) when I pass that intersection on Cahuenga on my way to the ride tonight.

Well I guess I can finally come back to Wolfpack next week since Wise won't be there to make the ride so unbearably fast. I suppose I'll try to use your travesty and turn it into something positive for myself.
maybe someone will be generous and carry you to the next midnight ridazz on one of those extra-cycles.

I’m happy to report that my Dr. says the bone is healing well. I may be back up and running a little sooner than I thought. Maybe as soon as two more weeks rather than six.
Does any one know of a cyclist friendly personal injury attorney?
