My first time hit by a car.

I know many here have been through considerably worse situations, but today was my first time being hit by car, so I wrote a
blog post about it. It looks like I got out of it with only a sprained thumb, a bruise and a minor cut, so I am very lucky and should be plenty well enough for AIDS LifeCycle.

I hope your thumb heals quickly! Did the person who hit you stop and acknowledge their transgression?

I have the info for the person. He was friendly enough, but would not admit fault. I wasn't really thinking straight at time, was high on adrenalin, and we both exchanged info, and I think his intention is to try and get me to pay for his car's damage. If this happens I am going to fight it, because the location and severity of the damage can prove he was violating CVC 21717. If he had properly merged before turning right, I would not have slammed full force into the side of the car.

I'd consider you a very able rider, so undoubtedly this dude was doing something untoward to cause the collision. I hope you can resolve it with minimal hassle.

It also bothers me that people think if they turn signal on before a turn, even if it's right before they turn, they somehow think they did everything fine, and expect everyone behind them to have time to react. Turn signal doesn't do shit unless you turn it ahead of time.

Yeah, Gary. Those right turns are where most run-ins happen. Drivers think bikes are slower than they are, or they plain don't see the bike.
I kniow it makes me look like a geek (but I'm too old to care about that), but I roll with an eye glass mirror ever since I got clipped by a right turning car. That mirror has kept me out of trouble many times.
Between helmets and mirrors, safty is killing cycling's coolness factor!

Just Monday some jerk sped up to get ahead of me just before an intersection, and then abruptly turned right in front of me. I could see what he was up to, so I slowed in time to avoid running into him, but fortunatly his passanger window was down and I got to let him know what an idiot he was as he made his turn.

Sorry to hear this Gary. It bugs me everytime I hear about another bike accident. This is happening waaaayyy to frequently, and it seems like we should be extremely careful out there.
Glad to hear you are ok. Is your bike ok?

Is there some kind of curse on team ALC? It seems like everyone on the team is having incidents. I dont understand this.

A mirror would not have helped in this instance, the car was already in front of me at the time, it wasn't a quick from behind and then turn. The problem was for how fast I was going, and how suddenly he turned after he flipped the turn signal, and wet brakes, there was no stopping in time and not enough room or time to avoid collision, and I'm pretty good at avoiding collisions.
About the bike, I think wheels could use a truing, but other then that seems fine. I was on my commuter bike at the time, not the road bike, which is in the shop getting a tune up and being boxed for the trip.
I just hope my thumb heals quickly, it's pretty painful today.

There's no curse, we've got quite of few bike commuters on our team and accidents happen. I'm just glad Gary is ok.
Gary is also the team Captain! So we would be lost without him.
no more accidents please.
