Holy fucking shit!!!! I just got home and guess what was sitting on the chair on my porch. My hard drive. The douchebag who stole it returned it. The drive still works and everything is still on it. You're still a major asshole, but thanks for realizing what you did and returning the drive.
Oh and thank you Dave for offering up that reward. I really appreciate that.

obviously the person saw how shitty theft is for the person who they stole from. hopefully they learned a lesson and won't do it again.

That's actually kind of depressing to hear, because it means that somebody really stole it and he didn't just move it while drunk or some shit.

Even more amazing, it was apparently just an act of kleptomania - I mean, why else steal a hard drive if you aren't going to use it, and if you are going to use it, why hasn't it been re-formatted yet? I suppose they maybe just wanted to steal your identity and got all the info they wanted before returning it, but that seems a bit far-fetched.
Get some help, thief-person. You clearly need it. Thanks for returning what wasn't yours.
And keep an eye on your credit report, Dan.

This is great news. What a relief, albeit temporarily. Now, as Sam said, you get to monitor your credit and any other passwords, etc. you may have on your computer.
I think this is cause to celebrate though. Why not have a beer, maybe file some welds on a tall bike and tie dye a T-shirt! Oh, and have a little Dim sum.

They were probably after my
TOTA pictures.
Remember I had transferred them from my camera to your computer but then I erased the card by mistake.
Sure there is the Rollerzz set but I had some exclusive shots and you had the only copy.

Dan I'll send my regards with Commandante GOpez. May the force be with you.

it's awfully pathetic that there are people amongst us who would just lift shit from your home.... means that we all just have to watch our shit unfortunately. but none the less it's awesome that the thief had a change of heart.
Roadblock07.6.08 - 5:44 pm

the thief did not have a change of heart. he went and stole a larger hard drive.

stealing a hard drive is pretty personal.... hard drives are cheap. I don't know how big dan's drive was but I just bought a massively sized 1 terabyte drive for $229 at fry's if dan's hard drive was even 2 years old it would prolly be worth $150 tops and sold used I mean $50? this was either something malicious against Dan or it was someone who knows zilch about computers and their value. I would never buy a used hard drive myself I just wouldnt trust that it was reliable having not known where it came from.... I'm guessing the guy had no clue about computers since it wasnt re-formatted. the guy thought he could get some money for it. no computer literate person would be that dumb and that heartless to think a hard drive is worth the while. Dan, do you have ANY ideas on who it is? Dont post anything here or in the public but just consider some of the people who came by your house?

Sometimes people steal drives for the data, not the drive itself.
