THE LA TO SAN DIEGO RIDE

Thread started by

THATS RIGHT FELLAS. 120 Miles of madness!!!
I would rather go with a group rather than just by myself. If anyone is interested in going, let me know. We would also need to find a place to sleep (bring sleeping bags or have $$$) we can come back by train the next afternoon.
Who's with me?

I didn't notice the other thread here about a similar ride. How strange.

what's strange is that YOU are the one who started that other thread...

San Diego is having a little event on the 19th of July. We should make it down there before to make the event. Just camp on the beach.
I'll be down there for it, depending on the doctors orders.

Friday July 18th meet at 6:00 am ride at 6:30 am
The meet point should depend on where our ridazz live so someone does not get burned out as soon as we start.

Coooooollllll I wanna do that again.
I think they moved the ride down here in (SD) to August some time. July 19 is during Over The Line tournament, which is a San Diego tradition. But I'm sure we can come up with a good date to ride.
Not sure where you are starting from but it is 130.3 miles from Union Station to Santa Fe station.
I bet we could get another group of SD folks to train up and ride back down. It was great last time.

Hey drew, whats the average time it took going south from Los Angeles to San Diego? I'm planning to make this ride start at 6ish in the morning. I'm expecting we can finish the ride in 14 Hrs with some breaks in between.

We made it last time in 12:43 with 8:10 min actual riding time. I might be off by a few minutes, but that's close. It depends on who goes, how experienced they are and how often you stop. We had 20 people and a few flats. We also stopped for a long dinner break. The route is posted in the old thread.

Take a day off work.
Its definitely worth it going on a Friday for a couple of reasons.
I have to get to a campus tour of UCSD on satuday and there is some "event" in SD on that Saturday.
Do you think you can make it drew? I think it would be great if we can get someone with experience with the routes to come along.

How crazy would it be to do this ride on a fixed gear bike?

It's totally within the range of track/fixed gear bikes. We had a bunch of them on the last LA2SD earlier this spring. Everyone with withoutout freewheel made it just fine.

But, sangwich....If I were you, I would make sure that I am able to ride at least 80 miles at once, with no discernable problems before doing the ride. That's just my two cents. You could do it with less conditioning, but the recovery will be longer, and more difficult if you haven't put in some consistent mileage.
