Looks like we need to be sure Every MR ride goes through the festival every night.

oh and
we were brought up
"LaBonge then shifted his tack, explaining that cyclists will have their very own personal day of holiday celebration, this year on Monday, November 24, and not just until 8pm but until 10pm. Tom demonstrated that he has his elbow firmly on the pulse by acknowledging "I know you guys like to ride at night, kinda like that 'Knight Riders' group.""

Dear LA-ist,
What else is funny is that Tom LaBonge corked every single intersection on Wednesday night's Positively 4th Street Ride.
Guess we'll leave it up to LA Metblogs, and LA Streetsblog to cover the rest!!
http://la.metblogs.com/2008/07/24/tom-labonges-summer-of-bike-love-kicks-off/
LA-ist doesn't care about that side of Tom LaBonge, now do they?
Clearly the ban should be lifted and LaBonge is trying to dodge it the issue.
BUT - He is also the only city councilmember organizing bike rides in L.A. of his own volition. A mildly awesome thing in an of itself.
Great job looking at the big picture!!
It just makes the boring lame-ass festival more fun if you get to STORM it with your bikes!
BAH!

This just in --- HORSES are als BANNED during LADWP Festival of Lights!!!
URGENT!!!! ACTION REQUIRED!!!
For too long, horses have faced an unfair ban on using Griffith Park on one night of each year.
That is like, SO UNFAIR to horses!!
END HORSE DISCRIMINATION NOW!!!

Last year's storm the festival ride was quite the non event... no one cared one way or another that we were there. The festival itself is a complete waste of energy.
LaBonge gets NO LOVE from me. Corking some intersections is a nice feel good gesture but he needs to get his ass in gear and
un-cork the LA River bike path.
currently being blocked by steven spielberg and NBC UNIVERSAL

i concur!
UNCORK THE LA BIKE PATH!
wait! it is possible to see TWO sides of an issue?!
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA?

this just in --
LaBonge corks bike path all by himself. With no help whatsoever from cyclists, community members, or anyone at all!!!
He stands in front of NBC Universal and Steven Spielberg and easily, singlehandedly gets them to change their whole attitude!
One man. One dream!
It's just that simple!
Blame LaBonge! Instead of encouraging him to do the right thing!
Better yet, do NOTHING!!

Ingi has come unhinged!
But, seriously, am I supposed to want to go to this light festival thing? Because I don't. Not at all. Not on bike nor foot nor pony.

He could do it if he really wanted to. Really. Its city property. Imagine having a bike path from canoga park to downtown.
But yeah you right he needs some encouragement. Does he have a stated goal with 4sbb? I would like to hear a stated goal from him regarding the bike path and a plan of action for both.
Until then I'll have a
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-MMM burger with french cries.

I won't "do nothing" I will probably continue to ride my bike and organize rides as I always have. The politicians are the do nothings. They are only coming around because of the riding we do.
Sorry didn't mean to hijack this thread.
Back to the light festival....

hee hee!
finally the point is made! thank you royalacademy!
the LADWP festival of lights is officially and conclusively:
LAME.
There should be room for both encouragement and legit critique....
But I'm off to become a horse advocate!
They are getting the shit end of this transit crises. Banned from trains, buses, bikeways, roads.
SO unfair.
;)

ingi--- you have forgotten the 1st axiom of LA bike activism: everyone hates us and anything positive should be ignored as it doesn't go far enough

Damn it, lame or not, I want to see this thing at least once in my life. I've lived in LA county over 15 years and the closest I've been to seeing this was last year. It was advertised that the bike hours were 6-10 here, but when we got there at 8:30, it was all shut down! THANKS!
I'll give it the o team spirit this year and get there at 6pm!

Imagine, for one entire night, the forces of MR trade their pedals in for stirrups!!!!
Think the authorities have a hard time with two wheels, they'll be running for the hills and calling in the national guard when a stampede of 50-300 ridazz on horseback go charging down some major, LA street!!!

that is such a deliciously wonderful idea!!!
WHOSE STREETS?

From a Streetblogs entry about the film "Contested Streets":
"Speakers presented the history of the car's ascendance, the end of its viability, and the ways it can become less dominant. Historian Mike Wallace reminded viewers that cars initially cleansed cities of horse poop and flies, but carmakers and their suppliers conspired to kill mass transit."
