Hey yo. As part of my birthday party my friends are trying to organize a cycle/drinking race through downtown.
10 check points, 10 beers.
$20 to register $100 if you win, race capped at 20 riders and beer is included in registration. drunkenstreetjam@yahoo.com
I don't know what the protocol is for posting stuff like this here (I don't post here). If it's too illegal or whatever feel free to take it down. Just putting out the word.

uhhh, I don't get any money. But anyway.
we've got some info if people are interested but if you want to break down money it's
$400 in registration
-$100 in prize money
-$120 let's say that's how much 200 pbrs costs, I don't really know
-$50 in hats or tee shirts to mark the volunteers running the checkpoints (for two hours out in the sun)
EQUALS= whatever is left for booze for the volunteers and riders to kick back with afterwards. A margin of error of about $130 in case enough people don't sign up, and if there's any money left I guarantee it's going to boozing up the volunteers. Even if it fills up they still won't be getting shit for what they're doing.
That's where the $2.00 you pay for a beer goes, that is, if you lose.
if it sounds like an asshole move than don't make it.

You should just make the prize on a sliding scale depending on how many people show.
$20 is kinda steep. If it's for fun anyways, money should not be involved, riders will get excessively stupid and competitive, and when mixed with booze, might not be good for themselves or bystanders.
Don't get me wrong, riding my bike home drunk from work is why I get up everyday.
Maybe make registration a 12 pack of beer, then you know there is enough beer, and no money is attached.

$5.00 registration from racers is how we have all-ways done Alley-Cats in downtown. Organizers figure out the rest.

Agree with Iggy, making payment be above the final prize is lame. Those who volunteer will reap their own rewards.

Open a bike shop if you want to make money out of bikers. But its inevitable, someone will capitalize on this community.

Twenty bucks for a Fauxlleycat?
If it's going to cost that, maybe you should have microbrews.
I kind of want to see this. Kids on Brakeless Fixies+Fauxlleycat+plus stops with beer=Darwinistic Fun.

You really have to wonder about a guy that joins the forum and then a day later starts hitting you up for money for a race on the same streets I ride for free. The downtown grand prix was 5 bucks a race and they shelled out more money and prizes in the end then your talking about even with charging 15 bucks more.I'm not saying this is a bad idea (but a race for the sake of drinking in downtown traffic!!!???).All I'm saying is I can see how people would see this as someone trying to make a buck off a scene that does'nt pay much or take much from others.

Hey guys,
Just to be clear, the reason I joined the forum was to post that flyer.
This event wasn't made specifically to target Midnight Ridazz and our only real objective was to have an awesome time. We didn't really expect that MR's would show up in fleeceable droves to fill up the rosters and make us bank, nor has that been the case.
On the money side of it, our objective was to do this with as little risk as possible and break even. If we fill up than I have no problem scaling back the registration, but there is no conceivable way this could happen at $5 a head. It's simply not near our ability to break even at that cost. If the race were happening today, we would lose money (but again that's fine, if you post prize money then that's just the way the sketchers roll sometimes).
It was always the expectation that the majority of people participating in this would be from my circle of friends, who I have even less desire to pick through for a buck than I do you guys. Hopefully this is going to be a freaking awesome event and no one will get hurt and there will be no problems.
If it doesn't sound like something you want to do than don't worry, if it sounds like too much cash but you wouldn't mind hanging around the finish line to see people stumble in than that's cool too. If you have the time or expertise to make this better or more efficient than by all means get in touch. It's our first run with this, and we don't know how to do everything best, but it's definitely something I think is worth the time and effort.
Sorry this response was so long and I hope it didn't sound defensive.
Peace guys.

pfc zima, are you fucking joking?
Seriously, there have been actual alcohol themed Alleycats thrown by actual Messengers [that's why they're called Alleycats]. for WAY less than 20 bucks. More like five bucks. There was PBR, whisky, da-da-da.
5 bucks seems to be the magic number for events.
No, it doesn't look like your trying to foist some fakenger DTLA pyramid scheme on the unsuspecting public, it just looks like you have no idea what you're doing.
And quite honestly, if you don't know what you're doing, maybe you should shy away from throwing potentially lethal races centered around getting drunk.
