PRICE OF OIL, CHANGE

it's those that DON'T see high gas prices as a benefit that are short-sighted.
humans don't alter their behavior until the cost of doing the same is greater than the cost of changing.
in other words, we WILL NOT get off of oil dependency so long as it remains cheap and easy to continue our use. period.
we can not avoid the unavoidable. the change will come, like it or not. and whether it's ultimately motivated by unsustainable resources or identifiably caused global catastrophe, the pain of change IS in our future.
finding other means of energy and transportation will either come following a manageable curve starting now or we will procrastinate and be forced in the future to act recklessly.
whether we're talking about a price increase in tubes or starving children in africa, those are the results of our past and present behavior.
and today i'm trying to change my selfish behaviors to do my microscopic part in avoiding an and predicted impending hell.

I fear that we have already procrastinated too much.

All day i sit twiddling my fingers like the the evil mouse from Pinky and the Brain, praying to my atheistic gods that oil hits $300 a barrel.

Damn, that shot is so disconnected. It doesn't capture any pain. I can't imagine how many people bombers like that can kill and not feel any effects from it. It's so detached. And yes, I'm sure the powers that be will find ways to fight against our spreading out to other sources of energy. I don't think it's inevitable. We have momentum right now. People can see a change, but it won't happen unless people will it to happen.

j, sounds like your gods need a self-help group. poor atheistic gods, don't believe in themselves! i can help.
for only $49.95 (plus shipping and handling) i will send your gods a self-help kit so they can believe in themselves again, and then you won't feel silly for believing in them too.

Looks like it's time to start capitalizing on that "roving gang of bandits" repellant-spray.
The sales pitch:
"In the times of these extreme energy crunches, are you tired of having your pie, child, or small-crop plundered by free-loading, gun/machete-toting, former-suburbanite?
If so, then those days, like the fuel that was burned long ago, will evaporate.
Introducing, the TranShocknix-3000, a small, yet simple solar-powered device that will bring the likes of 500 Lord Humungous' to their knobby knees.
With infinite power and a multitude of settings, you could protect your yard, or that 10acre sugarcane crop that powers your preserved motor-vehicle.
So, if the Main Force Patrol disbanded again, or you're suffering from shell-shock, fire a flare-pistol, light a signal fire, or simply log onto www.imoldleavemealone.org.
Find out which model will suit your needs until order comes back into play."
