I just got my MTN. bike all fixed up, new derailleurs, shifters, nobby tires Who wants to go DIRT MOBBING this weekend or next? I hear up by JPL there is some single track.

I've been wanting to go to the top of Hollywood Hills if you're interested. That would be on paved roads though.

The tires I have on now are super grippy, so going on paved roads won't be too fun.

I'm doing the cab to the hub (reseda Blvd south of Venturra) at around 6-6:30 am tues-friday if anyone wants to roll with me.

Get a set of slicks from Performance. They're on sale for $8 each and max psi of 85. I've been using them for years on my mtb.
@paul, you have more info on what you're talking about? I'm somewhat clueless about the your area.

If your going to jpl try el prieto before the ken burton trail. As long as you can ride and dont mind the exposure better than any trail around hollywood or santa monicas. Unless you like fireroads.

@user1 the dude said at the start he wants to ride on DIRT, why are you trying to get him to go on a road ride?

I like both too but that's why I have slicks on my road bike and knobbies on my mountain bike. On Sunday, I found out that slicks on a single track with rocks and sand really suck.

The cabellero or "cab" is a rocky twisty steep piece of single track that tops out on dirt mollhuland (sp?) that leads to a huge fire road system in the Santa Monics mountains the center is the hub where many trails intersect. That complete section is mostly climbing about 8 miles round trip. Keep in mind that dirt miles are much harder than road miles.

Performance Bikes has their usual sale on slicks that will fit your mountain rims. It's their house brand, Forte Slick City on sale at $7.99 each. Make sure you get the thin tubes too.
I can't use my road bike temporarily so I put a set of those slicks on my hard tail and keep them at 80psi. They're pretty good on pavement and I'm surprised at how fast they ride. However, I don't recommend them on even an easy trail. I rode a short section of dirt the other day and it felt pretty much like my road bike would have felt. I was glad to hit that same stretch yesterday with my full suspension bike with knobbies.

Thanks for the info.
I don't want the slicks for mountain trails. I want to use my mt bike for beach paths and on the streets, but I want to get an entie rim/tire set so I can just swap between them instead of dealing with changing the tire. I would never put slicks on to ride on trails. That sounds insane!
