Okay now that we got that out of the way here's the Juice
About 80 of us were rolling, having a good time, when two individuals decided to STEAL on my ride. This is unforgiveable. One, everyone's favorite rider Bernie, aka French Connection was hauled in for this. The other managed to make a quick getaway after the store manager caught him and photographed him, but the thief got away anyway. This fellow then called me on my cell phone to apologize, while I was up on the wall with everybody else getting checked for weapons and evidence.
Mr Thief, you know who you are, and I know this is not the first time you have stole. Please do not return to any of my rides. ANY of them.
Because of your actions, (and Bernie's) we all had to give our info to the cops which took forever, while they searched us. 3 people were put into the back of the cop cars in cuffs, and two were released with unrelated tickets. Bernie got hauled away.
As a testament to my eternal faith in most bikers, eveyone was giggling like junior high students and cracking up taking pictures. It was especially funny when that one cop was like, "I was in the streets before you were born!"
MY VIEW: The LAPD had every right to do everything they did. How else were they gonna find the thief? Since I was point rida for the police to deal with, they gently reminded me of all things they could be ticketing us for, lights, open containers, etc but didnt because they had the serious matter of stolen beeer to attend to.
Afterwards, the cops actually forgot to take with them some of the ill gotten gains. The remaining Ridazz and I drank it in the shadow of the Van Nuys Police Station on the Orange line bike path.

Im not gonna stop hosting rides people. We were just getting warmed up, and some really cool shit lay ahead of us on the trail.
Just expect there to be less stops. Like next time I do one of these, I will try to avoid the tragedy of guilt by association by instrucitng eveyone to just carry all their own fluids for the trip because there will be few to no stops, so we can actually get a ride in.
I'm not Superman; I can't elminate thievery, all I can do is come up with a route and ride it.

In that case, we should select a few, trusted individuals to make store runs while everyone else is stopped.
I recently put my rack back on the bike, and I'm thinking of mounting a basket.
This way, I could go fetch beer and $5 pizza's to relieve any famish on future rides.
Little-to-no stops would be good, but last thing we need is some rookie crashing out due to not eating anything all day.

This ride was great, I am just sorry I had to bail our early before the CVS incident. Let's face it, two people out of 80 fucked up the ride for everyone. That is 2.5 percent of the entire group. If you judge a ride by the 2 percent, then you really shouldn't be riding with us.
Also saying shit on the forum, dissing the ride and the person who organizes the ride, because you are too much of a coward to say it to someones face, or you are an ass or both, means you shouldn't be riding with us.
For the 2 percent who stole the beer and ruined the ride for everyone last night, you have two choices. Choice 1: Go to the LAPD Van Nuys division and turn yourself in. Tell them you stole the beer and you want to make restitution to CVS. You also want the record to show that none of the other riders were involved nor were part of your reprehensible actions. Then write a full page apology to all the riders you put through hell last night. Make 200 copies with your own money and distribute it to all riders, whether they were there or not, at the next Valley ride.
Choice 2: Never ride with us again.

I Think the cops were waiting and ready for a call from a store owner saying there are being over whelmed by bicyclist. Why I say this, is because I’ve been doing these rides for a few years now. At some of the ride stops there’s been some shoplifting and doors locked up. Other times when I’m inside, the cashier is calling the police and freaking out. It really hit home when I did the SFVCM and we stop bye Dales Jr. down the street from my apt. We just rolled up and the store owner would not let us in. I tried to talk to him but he wanted no part of us. I was mad and never want to go to his store again. Today after a mountain bike ride and after I rolled bye the store and saw the owner and wanted to talk to him about it. I been to his store many times and he’s always nice to me and asked me about my rides. But today he was not interested in talking. I’ve been upset and Thinking of what I’ve seen and heard of what has happen in the past with MR rides. Now seeing this post and how shoplifter has giving cyclist a bad reputation. Was he once a victim of a non responsible MR shoplifter, so should I really be upset with him or my fellow RIDAZZ ??? For all the guys who Host the rides, GOOD JOB and don’t let this discourage you. keep them partying on, ……LongLiveMidnightRidazz

instead of focusing on the person or people who allegedly, and the word is "allegedly" shoplifted from CVS, why not focus on the management of CVS for assuming someone stole from there store (if someone did steal, they would have been able to positively identified the person) and the LAPD for overstepping there authority by searching 37 people who they had no positive id that anyone of them stoled anything.
If anybody stoled anything and the evidence was clear, those people would have been charged.
You are accusing someone that they stoled something and should write an apology and pass it out, when you don't know if anybody actually stoled anything.
Your missing the outrage here. A store decided that the whole group of people our guilty of something, when they think someone did a individual crime. The LAPD detained and searched people who ride bikes, when they had no probable cause to do so.

Thanks for saying Hi. Sorry I havn't been able to make out to any of your rides. They sound like they have been terrific!
Thanks for clarifying what happens.
Lots of new youthful riders. Nothing wrong with being young and new, it just sometimes people at earlier stages in life, don't realize the harm there actions can cause.
