Camp-out at the beach in a private group campsite 30 miles north of LA, reserved for Ridazz only.
No panniers, racks nor trailers required. We gots a truck to carry your tent and sleeping bagzz.

Richard, you can add Ilya and Stephanie to the list. Also, I think Steph will be one of the drivers. We have alot of camping supplies, stoves, lanterns, grills...so she can drive over to the campiste too. I will try to get Frank to go too. So, we ride, and the women carry out shit!!

What a great group we’ve got so far!
There’s still lots more room at the inn so keep the RSVPs coming.
@SONNY – are you in? Please confirm.
@graham - Yes a track bike is fine for this ride.
@TC4TB – You don’t necessarily need to ride your MTB, but we will be next to a wilderness full of trails and there’s always the possibility of doing some dirt riding while others hike / swim / chill.
@maxtheheaten – You won’t be too slow. Email me regarding your 2nd night. I know the area and can tell you where you can (and can’t) camp.
I’d like to keep a chill pace on PCH so that the group mostly stays together (10 – 15mph?) Not too fast, but not so slow that we can’t use our momentum to get up the hills.
Please take a look at
the route and note the elevation. There's lots of rolling hills, none of them too big, but some effort will be required to get over a few of ‘em. At least Saturday’s uphills will become Sunday’s downhills.
@dl1245 – come by, say hi and rep the 805!
@feelingrandy – sleeping al fresco is certainly an option, just be sure to bring some kinda ground-cover/tarp so your sleeping bag’s not sitting on the dirt.
I think most people will be bringing tents and some kind folks have already offered to bring a few extras. If anyone wants to borrow a tent, post it and we’ll try to get you hooked up.
Also, there were a lot of gnats, flies and other winged creatures when I was there last time so some kinda shelter might be nice for the daylight—and bug-spray too, if that’s your thing. I’ll try to bring some citronella candles to keep them creatures in check.
@thunderthighs – can you perform at the midnight beach party? That’d be awesome!
@NEWB310/el rich – What kinda new info are you seeking?
@HANDBONE – careful throwing around the “C†word, Syoma. We might force you to demonstrate your skills!

• 2-person instant pop up
• Dome that sleeps 2 or 3 depending on height
• "6-Man" tent, probably way cozy with 6, should be roomy with 4, fit 8 if everybody spoons

I vote (and PLEASE Weigh in on this) that we turn the larger tent into a comfy shangra la hang out type thing with pillows and suchlike.
Kind of like Crespin & Dave's yurt with out the maintenance but WITH all of the fuzzy stuff.

No worries. I knew about the race. There's also a short-course version this year on Sunday. I've done Nautica before. If anything, it means that for almost half the route we'll have a lane for cyclists, closed off from traffic until possibly 3:00-ish. On both days. Schweet!

I thought it was 30 miles from the SM pier, past the county line
which would make it near point mugu, there are several campgrounds in that area.

Hope it's not this RV park. After reading the reviews, I doubt we'll last a night there!

my geodesic dome that I used at Black Rock City weighs 150 lbs.

Fluffa, we're just going to the beach over night, not hiking at 8,000 feet.
The smores grille above is a dude from SF, or at least he was at the SFCM ride.
Does anyone know if we're able to build a fire on the beach? The RV park people said it's quiet time after 10pm. That's about the time I get started.

I think i'm gonna drive there....possibly borrowing an expedition and gonna sleep in the back of it. Waiting to hear back about # of cars allowed. so far the list has 3 driving plus the main truck with gear.

pitched the giant 6man tent just to inspect it.
It's HUGE, definitely sleeps 6 if nobody's crazy tall, 5 with plenty of legroom. would definitely be a cool hangout spot out of the weather/ away from bugs.
Anybody else bringing a big tent? If not, I'll definitely throw it on the pile.

Thanks guys and let me repeat it once again--we are not camping in an RV park! It's a private campground and it is not on the sand, but the beach is a 5-minute walk away. Please peep the PICTURESOF THE ACTUAL SITE on the ride posting so you can see where we'll be staying.
@spiral - I'll bring a tent for you too.
@maxtheheathen - big tent, big tent, big tent! Bring it.
@barleye - I have a parking space for you (and a few more if anyone else needs one).
@User1 - There are fire pits at the campsite. There's a beach a mile or two away that we can ride to at night and have pretty much to ourselves, but starting a campfire there might bring the wrong kinda attention (though someone might be spitting fire...)
@thunderthighs - s'mores sound delish. Anyone wanna volunteer to bring some harsh mellows, chocolate and graham crackers?
@ALL - it looks like we'll have more cargo space so we *should* be able to carry all your gear, including food. We'll have limited ice chest space so it's hard to say how much perishable food we can carry, but we can carry some.
Re: food - if people wanna bring extra eats pot-luck style or group together and buy stuff, that might work well. We are stopping at a supermarket for our lunch stop so if you don't plan ahead, you'll have a chance to grab some grub there.
GEAR TRANSPORT - most importantly, I wanna make sure everyone can get their sleeping bag, tent, and other gear to the ride.
Right now there are two pick-up points:
1. Friday night at the VeGaNBaNaNaPeNiS!!! ride and
2. Saturday at noon at the pier.
Since I know this won't work for a few of you, I'll be doing some pick-ups on Thursday afternoon / evening and if need be on Friday.
Can EVERYBODY PLEASE RESPOND by adding either the words:
1. "Friday"
2. "Saturday" next to their name if you'll be dropping off your stuff then
3. or list your NEAREST MAJOR CROSS-STREETS if you need help with gear.
And of course, if any of you are near one another and can help consolidate pick-up points or bring someone else's gear, I'd appreciate it. This is not an invitation to be lazy--I have a tiny car with little space that guzzles gas--so please bring your gear to one of the two pick-up points if you can.

I am bringing a nice size cooler, a very bright lantern, a propane stove, a propane grill and a bunch of food. Lots of Sausage from Traders. They are easy to make a are really good. I think I have a second cooler if you need me to bring it.

I have a Plethora of camp food I can make, but ILLY you win with SAUSAGE! I LOVE SAUSAGE! Sausage is the perfect food!
I'll bring smores. & other tasty delicatables.
As far as fire, I still think that if there's any wood left from the playa we should burn it.. Beardy Dan, Wonderdave orWCrespin might know.

I've camped at this spot before... It's where we regularly sacrifice the virgins in my cult. That being said, it's bestt o camp on the north side of that big wooden structure and also.. beware of cougar attacks like this one.

Coe coe - maybe some citronella oil to keep the bugs at bay and something to keep you warm on the beach at night. And a bathing suit, if you'll be swimming.
Yeah, and if anyone has some citronella candles, please bring 'em. And some wood for that virgin sacrifice...

We have a great deal of practical camping gear we are outdoorsey folks as Illy said we have the lights and grills we also have an ax for chopping wood some utensils and pots and pans in our gear Im kinda an organized freak so its all in plastic containers easy access . I like to make beans with veggies cut up like onions bell peppers and tomatoes we may bring some of that too and yes the sausage easy no need for utensils just roll um up and eat um. tortillas??? I cant wait it is going to be a wonderous trip see ya there :) thanks for all the planning and arranging -Two wheels

Are there many veggie folks? I could bring a can of 30 vegan hot dogs. They're way better than almost any other veggie dog, and they come in a gallon can! If there's only a few veggie eaters, I'll just bring a can of 12.

Hey Illy- I've talked to "the host" he asked me to post the note about firewood. There isn't much around there in the way of stores, and I can't see us all buying a bundle and trying to shlep them up there on our backs.
Hence the request that drivers pick some up. If you want to meet us at the ride start I'll give drives cashola then.
The firepit there is big and there's only one, last time we camped there (last year this time) we went through like 8 bundles that night. Of course we were hanging out pretty late/early, and I CANT IMAGINE that people will be staying up past midnight (that last part was sarcasm if you didnt get that ;-)

twowheelsgood...as you know, kel, mook and I (tern) were going to ride in from the north and meet you at the camp ground. But, we weren't able ride the train up to the spot up north because there was a head on train collision between a freight train and a metrolink train yesterday.
So, we will be riding with you from Santa Monica. We are frantically trying to get everything ready to go so we can ride out to the pier and meet you guys for the ride up. See you there! This is gonna be fun.

We are here in paradise. The weather was perfect and we had a great ride. Were all stuffed after a vegan BBQ carnivore feast and trying to kill off a keg.
COTW--campers of the week--goes to Andrew, EN and Siku who made a night run from LA at 7pm on their bikes, got here at 10:30pm and then laid down some of the most righteous carna asada ever grilled north of Malibu.
And big ups to ROTWX2 who visited us this afternoon and brought us treats.
We'll probably roll out of here by 2 or 3pm tomorrow, if not sooner. Come by Parlorbikes. Call for directions.

Thank you Richard, for a truly unforgettable weekend. You are hands down the finest ride leader I've ever ridden with. You looked out for everybody, organized this perfectly, and managed to have fun yourself. My hat is off to you.
Thanks to the group for being so kind and welcoming. It was a pleasure riding and camping with all of you.
