METRIXXXXXXXXXX CENTURY
Thread started by GarySe7en at 11.24.07 - 11:38 am

Metric Century (100km) Training Ride for AIDS Life CycleTeam Midnight Ridazz. All riders who care to join us welcome. More Details to be announced.

Will be on Sunday December 9th, and during the day time. Mostly flat terrain from LA to Long Beach and back along LA River Path. Should be a good stepping stone toward doing full 100 mile centuries for anyone looking to train toward that goal.

There will be spoke cards for riders who complete the course.

Special edition spoke cards designed to double as great Christmas ornaments, will be given to all riders on the team who finish, and any rider who completes the ride and donates minimum $5 to support our AIDS Life Cycle fund raising efforts. A special edition card without "100km" in the design can be purchased for min $5 by anyone who wants to support the team but not participate on the ride.

There will also be a couple unique cards for anyone who goes half way, and you can get an A for effort.

Also considering making 3 super special, super big, spoke cards for anyone willing to donate $20 or more to Team Midnight Ridazz.

While looking over design for special edition card, I noticed it may also make a great mostly ineffective ninja star. So if you love ninjas, and stars, and bicycles, then come ride with us, and donate monies to a good cause.

To reiterate, all riders welcome, and spoke cards for all who finish, but super special ninja decorative ornament cards are only for those who are either on ALC Team Midnight Ridazz or give a minimum $5 donation to show your support.

Scouting the route for this tomorrow Sun Dec. 2nd. Meeting @ 10:00 at the Bicycle Kitchen, for any who would like to join, or want to do the ride but can't make it on the 9th. Spoke cards for scouts after I get them printed. We might meet for breakfast before hand, will post details if we do.

wheeeeee METRIXXXX MADNESS!

gary do you need a ride out there? i'm driving to bike kitchen and have room for you + bike.

or are you going to be ultra hardcore, bike out/back to the starting point and turn the metric into a personal full-blown "imperial" century?

then again, the rest of us may need you to start a bit winded just so we can keep up!

Sorry I didn't make it to the start of your ride Gary. I got up late :-(

I did decide to just say "F*** it I'm going riding down the river trail anyways", that's why you guys saw me yesterday. Hope you all had a great ride, I did! I had to do my scouting for the Xmas Toy Ride.

We'll be doing ride again on the 9th if you're still interested Alen. Was funny, was calling biker up, and then had double take, we know that cyclist.

Oh and Cathy, you know me, what's another 20 miles when doing 65 already. Was getting my second wind about when we got back to the Kitchen.

May take you up on offer if you are driving out though, since you live down the street from me. I need a break every so often :)

ANNOUNCEMENT: Pushing Meeting to 8:30AM & Rollout time to 9:00AM.
------------------------------------

Sorry for relatively short notice, but want to keep ride from going into the evening, at least river path portion. Sun goes down early these days, and on scout ride we took a few long breaks, and had gotten off to late start. Just in case sundown hits us anyways, make sure your headlight has fresh batteries.

Also a few tips for everyone coming out. Be sure to bring snacks to munch on along the way, you will get hungry no matter how much you eat for breakfast, and there are no 7-11s on the LA River. A big dinner the night before is also advisable. Bring water, and remember to keep drinking it along the way.

Also make sure you have a spare tube or two, flats are quite likely, although we had great luck, zero flats, on scout ride.

i'll probably come

73% chance of me riding from the sm pier, if you wanna come let me know, it'll be about 90 miles total (14 + 62 + 14) and we'll probably eat dinner after the metric century so the ride back won't be too bad.

I think I'm going to catch a ride with Cathy who is driving out from West Side. I did my 90+ on the scout ride, in addition to a bunch of other miles including first Wolfpack ride. Going to take it easy this weekend.

anyway i'll be there, hopefully can drag steph along too.

It's up to you, terrain is mostly flat except for a few rolling hills at tail end of ride going back up to the Kitchen. I rolled in big gears pretty much whole way, but if your handle bars are not comfy I would not recommended it.

Before I had road bike I did a 78 mile ride with flat handle bars, and wasn't good about taking hands off bars to relax, and ended up with numbness in the side my hand and pinky that lasted for a week.

Trying to keep this a fairly slow and steady venture, to make miles doable for people doing their first metric. Average pace on scout was 14-15 most of the way. This is not a hustle ride, but it's not a cruise either, we are only making a few planned stops.

How much did it cost to hire that semi with the flat bed on the bridge in the last picture? Or was Bentstridrer behind the wheel?

It was another beatiful day for a ride, and thanks everyone for coming out. I was really stoked to see so many people out for this, it being a sunday morning and all, and I know for several people this was their longest ride ever. Final milage came out 64 miles, which is no small accomplishment.

Big thanks to those of you who gave donations to the team for the special edition spoke cards. Also, remember that the special edition cards can be used as a weapon when necessary, I did some test throwing with one earlier. If a whole is punched in the top portion of laminate and string strung through, it also makes a great decorative ornament. Thanks to Johanna and Ryan, who helped me cut those labor intensive cards.

Those of you who had to cut out early at the lunch stop, hope you all made it back okay. Only one flat on a ride of plentiful broken glass, pretty good odds in our favor.
