i'm here at USC...had to evacuate our building (lucky me, i'm part of the usc emergency response team...uh, yay.). half the staff evacuated...but only to find them in the lobby area, watching CNN. the other half was just acting as if nothing happened, carrying on with their meetings with potential MBA students. i peeked out the window and everyone's walking around campus as if nothing happened. good times.
btw...during an earthquake, do NOT go under the doorway, like they taught you back in school. it's unsafe. imagine if you're in a doorway and the door slammed shut on your face, fingers, etc... not a pretty sight. if you can get underneath a sturdy table/desk or stand against an "inside" wall, with your hands and arms protecting your head, you're better off. it's best to stay within an "inside" wall, as opposed to an "outside" (wall facing the outside) because it's sturdier. inside walls are least likely to collapse.

@imachyyna
-Those are actually auto-transport rigs.
One of the other companies I'm thinking of getting on with does a combination of flat-bed and auto-hauling.
This is so the dealers could get their new inventory with less wear and tear.
In an earthquake, the best thing to do would be to stay off the overpasses and pull onto someplace flat to ride out the storm.
After that, get the fuck outta dodge, because if the quake was that bad, and you're rig is still in good condition, you'll either end up getting jacked by a thug, or being deputized by Nat'l Guard, or some other law-enforcement agency with emergency powers.
