Meet at the usual Emila AIr-heart statue on Magnolia and Tujunga In Beautiful Red Line CLose NoHO.
Meet at 9:30pm leave at 10pm or whenever we are ready to go. Don't rush Us, we have find Steve.
Be nice are this ride. We are looking for Steve and we want no trouble from neighbors or the Police.
Follow the ride leader. No hiJacking.
Don't yell obscenity's at the police. They may save your life or arrest you someday, better to be on good terms.
They are also human beings trying to make a living.
Keep a lane clear for emergency Vehicles or other people that may be traveling faster then this party and may want to pass us.
Clean up your stuff, don't leave a mess.
This is no-tolerance for Stealing ride. Don't steal from the stores that our hosting our refreshment needs.
No graffiti. Lets not get the world mad at us, because we want to ride bikes and partying
Regarding partying, KNOW YOUR LIMITS. Have fun, but keep yourself in control. It is less expensive for your pocket book and other peoples good time
Most importantly --- Lets find that Steve......................where is he. Theme of the ride is PLAY NICE

also being courteous and polite to the police and neighbors won't go over very well. remember the point of having bike rides is not to have fun or ride your bike, it's to piss off people not on the bike ride because uh they're not bikers and one time this driver totally cut me off and honked at me and i have serious issues with the police and authority figures stemming from my suburban middle class upbringing

Whoa, you were quick on the ball in regards to that one, I'll post mine up when I have some free time to edit.
Anywho, this was a worthy effort for your first-time, Howard.
There were many SNAFU's, but I don't believe any of it was your fault.
Perhaps the late-start actually brought out the hijacker in some people and it led to the Greek salad of an experience that we had last night.
One group was tailed one way, another towards that bar, another towards that 7-11.
If last month was a beach party, this one was the scavenger-island throw-down.
Anywho, nice job and anything bad that happened here could be used as a building tool for the future.

This was a ride, a real ride. Less stopping and drinking and more riding.
Very enjoyable and exhilarating. Thanks Howard, Big Bike Dan, etc.
Also just an FYI. Apparently Steve, who we were suppose to find, was riding with us all the time. He even lead the ride sometimes. So he was never lost, but whether he was really found...is another question.

There was a minor hang up last night, but overall a good time! It was nice going through some new areas (forest lawn), and it was nice not having to worry about crazy drunk riders so much this time.

Hey guys, 17mph on Ventura blvd is not a social ride, it is a race. I thought the point of this ride was to have fun, not leave a large number of riders behind in the dust.
If this is going to be fast-paced, please say so in the info about the ride, otherwise - SLOW DOWN!
You all have to decide what these rides are going to be, I have really enjoyed attending these for the past year and a half.

I'll definitely agree with BikeMom on that issue, the wannabe-hustle is getting way out of control.
I was hearing some reports from various ridazz that formerly chill rides are now becoming increasingly fast for no apparent reason.
Tues. Night Special, and that K-Town Crawlers were slow and good times at first, but I guess there's this calling to be like Wolfpack, but not on it.
I talked with Howard after the ride and he told me he just wanted it to be a straight-ride with fewer stops and a good pace.
He never seemed to be hustling and was seemed to be staying along with the trailer.
However, there was that bunch that gaggled up the front and decided to take some kind of point.
That point just ended up splitting the pack and setting everyone in every, which-direction.
What I'm thinking would be a good suggestion for quelling this is to get all the cruisers, tall-bikes, and slow-people to come up front and introduce themselves as we putz along.
While that's being done, some dude with a cyclo-computer and a megaphone keep track of the speed.
If the pace starts getting a little, out-of-whack, said dude will start making asthmatic, scary-ass noises into the megaphone.
If we want to keep our crowd strong throughout the ride, we gotta consider the individual strengths and weaknesses of everyone riding along with us.
Because another thing I get a little tired of seeing is a large crowd at the start, then a thin-out at stop 1, or 2.

I was clocking 32 -35 kph (20-22 mph) riding to the front of the pack on Ventura Blvd. I tried to tell them to slow down, but to no avail. It was a hustle the entire stretch from Colfax to Coldwater Canyon.

i have yet to post, and i hate that my first time posting is to bitch and moan, but last night's ride was a real mess. this ride has generally been an ideal ride to invite new riders on in an effort to get them turned on to riding, and last night this was not the case at all. i had two new riders with me who struggled with the pace, and at one point we were all seperated. one of my newbies and i were with the group that got hijacked and misled from the main group.
regardless of the confusion as to what the route was and the lack of leadership, the most dissapointing aspect of the ride was the attitude of some of the riders (basically the ones contributing to the faster pace) who told both my newbies that they were going too slow and needed to hurry up. having stragglers/slow riders is dangerous, the tail end is more vulnerable at intersections, but then again that's exactly why we have the motto "NO RIDER LEFT BEHIND".
rather than just complain, i'm willing to offer my services to print our routes, in an effort to help this ride get back on its feet. unfortunately, i will not be inviting anyone on this ride until the issues plaguing it can start to be addressed and remidied.

Yes we all learned a lot from this ride and will make sure this type of thing DOES NOT happen again, I still had GREAT time even being in the group that got left behind, but we really cant let this type of thing go down on the actual "Midnight Ridazz" rides. This was a pretty good amount of peoples first rides as well and I wouldn't want anyone to get discouraged.

You have to understand this type of thing does not happen on a lot rides, some times things just don't work out. It was a learning experience. And for the guy/lady who told your friends that you should have told them to show some more compassion and respect for one another. We all need to communicate and be vocal MUCH more.

great first effort Howard, but just a few things that can be corrected for the next ride hopefully. going such a long distance on an incline up Ventura and having the first stop be streched out too far is a sure fire way to break up the group. Newbies getting tired and lost means newbies getting discouraged from coming back next time.
for the speedsters - this is a social ride which means more stops, and or more drinking and is not meant to be a hustle! Just remember this ride was originally called CRUISE WITH US! If you want to hustle there are plenty of hustle type rides you can attend and show everyone how fast you are. Im sure you dont feel the need to show off your speed to a bunch of newbies and people on cruisers or just people that dont care to go fast, do you?
Lastly, how much of a douchebag do you have to be to tell a newbie on a cruiser or any bike for that matter that "they were going too slow and needed to hurry up" Ohhh ya Im such a badass I just told a newbie on a beach cruiser that he/she is too slow.

Stopping at a few red lights through out the ride is always a simple way to give opportunity for the ones who are falling behind, without the lengthy liquour store stops. (those are good too)
Anyways, despite being in the back of the pack the whole night......I had a great time!!!!!!

Just wanted to say thank you and let you all know that I had a blast for a first time ever doing this along with my brothers and friends. We were expecting a cruise but we were surprised that the pace was fairly fast.
for the first half of the ride i was in the back and i was struggling and riding fast to keep up with the lead group but soon after i got up front and found that the lead group was at a fairly smooth pace. My brothers and their friends fell back and was one of the groups that got left behind at griffith park. when we stopped at that last 7-11 it was kind of discouraging to see that we lost so many people it looked like everyone just wanted to get back to the park and head home but my attitude along with some others soon lifted when the 2nd group caught up with us and people started to chat, dance drink, smoke etc. good times.
I also got to meet some people. I will for sure be riding with you guys again and hopefully i run into the same people i met.

yeah it was a combination of people afraid to run through corked lights, and then the front pack was moving. After the last person on Laurel Canyon, i took off for the front at 28 mph sprinting, and I was sprinting all the way until we made the right at chandler and BARELY caught up with the trailer. Not that I was hustling, but slowing down and making sure people get through the lights safely and then hustling it for the front of the pack.
Sorry for the pack that got left behind, I was doing the back to front pursuit about 8 times that night, until i crashed and the shock kept me in the back, but some people from the back were starting to get frustrated.
it'll be hard to keep the new people to show up to the next social ride if the pace is up so high.
i think we need to cork the riders at lights....

yes it has always been pointed out that on this particular ride, BBD trailer sets the pace, but for some reason theres always a group of douchebags that cant seem to respect that and end up taking a bunch of unsuspecting riders with them when the go off the route.
