I'm actually really impressed with Bicycle Johns when it comes to needing a bike mechanic. They really know their shit, do quality work and will never keep you waiting more than an hour. Product wise, their stuff is overpriced... but they've got what you need.

Paul's Atomic Cycles on Saticoy, Athena on Ventura, H&S on Victory, or Metropolis on Hollywood Way - those guys are all good, and reasonably priced.
Bicycle John's aka "Serious Cycling" is for yuppies, roadies, and weekend warriors - they make me want to vomit.

^^^ psht! whatever... i mean, i've had good AND bad experiences there (the bad was with one annoying sales person they have who isn't a mechanic, just a shitty sales person), but the good were REALLY good. And what does that mean anyway? What's wrong with being a roadie? and what makes them yuppie? I mean it's true, they do not specialize in fixed gear bikes... i should have mentioned that.
I'm excited to go to Athena one day soon... I've never been there, but Harry was telling me I should check it out.

The only shop I ever deal with is Morey on Burbank and Woodman. Truly a hood shop. Its called the Bike Factory. I've been to all the shops in LA and he is without a doubt the best one by far for whatever repair you need, and he sometimes has used parts. Unfortunately this website cuts out comments that run past a certain number of characters, and that's why I cant say all the good things about him. He re welded my first fixie after i thrashed it a few times, re welded my tall bike after i crashed it, the list goes on. Also has the highest IQ of anyone i know. And he raced track back in the day. OG veterano x 1,000 tell him Alex sent you. We're lucky to have him.

I guess from a commuter-cyclist sense, a roadie is nothing more than a jock that uses a bicycle as a toy and drives a car everywhere else.
As for my local store, I got J & K Sports, Jay Hammond is a pretty good guy and doesn't serve out any bullshit when it comes to maintenance/reliability issues.
Corner of Amethyst(EmptyFist) and Bear Valley in Victorville if anyone ever dared/cared to come up here.

Ya never know what could happen.
You could be on your way to Vegas, then find out a bunch of ridazz are headed out there at the last minute, then all of a sudden, "Shit, where could I find a cheap, yet decent MTB, or Cruiser to partake?
Oh yeah, that one place that one guy mentioned!!!"
Yeah, but you're pretty much right.
All we got up here are people trying to leave, and probationers from other parts of the state getting dumped here as part of their conditions.
Did I forget to mention that 70% of Barstow is like, all military?

Yes TallbikeAlex, that Morey's sound all well and good. Can Morey's get you hooked up with a seat post for your tall bike that won't split on you? Can They?
If your on the other side (west) of the Valley, and you want to be
treated like shit, I mean ignored, you can go to Sundance in Calabasas.

Let us not forget Bicycle Den in Granada Hills and Reseda BIkes in Reseda on Reseda Blvd one block south of Sherman Way.
If you have trouble and Bicycle Den is the only shop close to you, look me up, and if I don't have what you need, I give you a ride to another shop.
If you are close to Reseda Bikes and need service, you would be better walking or taking the bus to another shop. Oh they will have whatever you need at Reseda Bikes. Their inventory is amazing. They will also over charge you, look at you like your are going to steal everything from them, treat you like dirt, then berate you for good measure.

Maury has great brazing equipment and fixes anything....Hey maybe he can make an extra long seat post too.
The Bike Factory is always more than fair to everyone.

Anyone know what the hours are at Athena? I've been there twice when it was closed. No hours posted. Answering machine says "open everyday". Looks like a great shop from what I can see thru the window.
Metropolis seems like a good place to buy a light or a bell but they are in short supply on serious bikes. Tons of cruisers and Townies but few road bikes, MTBs or hybrids.
