These guys were suppose to be pros or something? They don't even close the laptops and stack them. Seemed like it would have been alot easier to carry them if you did that. Would have left you time to get the ac adapters too.
Anyways soon you won't be able to get away as they'll have a lo-jack system on them. At least that's what I would do if I was that Apple dood. Not sexy, but man that would be a nice feature to have. Build it into the bios too.

They'll either sell these to some poor schmuck in a low-income area that probably isn't well-versed in that sort of thing.
Or, they might sell them to some guy who in turn, takes them overseas and hawks a profit there as well.
They do it with lifted Acura's and Honda's, can't imagine it being any lesser for quality computer hardware.

MAC addresses can be spoofed. Plus I would think you would need some way for the software to "call out" a signal or something. You can't just go searching for MAC addresses easily.

saw this the other day too, pretty brazen imho
re mac addresses: those can easily be changed through the operating system
macs do have unique serial numbers for each one, so i would imagine if someone were to come in to get a repair or something a flag could pop up on the apple store person's screen
there is software that will phone home once an internet connection has been established, but this would be an easy thing to get around if the thieves have half a clue
if the plan is to just sell these on craigslist or ebay or some alley, then i doubt any of the above matters to the thieves
if the plan is to build some cluster computer or something, then i'm sure the thieves know enough to cover their booty

Like I said, that Apple dude can do something like a lo-jack system on the laptops. The lo-jack would be built into the bios and have it password protected. Someone might still be able to get around this by disabling the motherboard battery, but you can design it where this could be next to impossible to do. And we all know, a computer not connected to the net is basically useless.
Very useful, yet not Apple sexy enuff.

i know exactly what you mean
we have some dells at work with the computrace lojack built in and enabled, it is bios level, a hard drive swap and/or format and reinstall won't touch it
unfortunately on macs, it isn't bios level, this is a huge problem and makes it super easy to get around...would the thieves know or care?
i'd imagine all the thieves care about is getting rid of them in exchange for dollar$, it's the buyer that'd get screwed over
bios level wireless gps enabled phoning home systems would really be the most effective way imho
