get ready to get bombarded from every angle with bike culture. it seems the powers that be have caught onto us and will be attempting to capitalize on it as well. we've all seen the kaiser commercial with the bikes, now prez bush to help mtn bikers? little by little they will inundate us with their version of what bicyling should be all about and not that this is bad but they will take something as sincere and genuine and heart felt as what we've got and mold into...

They won't be inundating *us* with what bike culture should be.. they'll be inundating *the comsumer* who will then show up and try to be a SERIOUS CYCLIST and fuck it all up for us bike riders.

When there's more bikes than cars on the road, then maybe.
But I'm not worried about that at all, to say the least. ;)
Ya, them serious cyclists: the mess up everything. We should give 'em a big injection of F.U.N.

I think it'll be like many other things - more resources for the true enthusiast, but also more to sift through in order to find actual GOOD stuff.
More awareness = higher visibility = possibly more public resources directed towards it.

No matter what turn it takes, concerning the perception of bikes to the general public. More bikes or less bikes, stricter regulations or whatever. It will always, ALWAYS, come to this:

i dont think kittens is paying attention lol
back to the topic
only problem with new bikers is that they think they will know everything and I can't wait for bikers to hog the bike lane
but at least there will be more car awareness and less cars
but then gas demand is going to go down = lower prices = eventually more cars and more suck for bikers
what is spandez?

It's true. THEY have caught on. You're not special anymore. You'll have to find a whole other ascending social trend to make you unique.

Sure, they'll bastardize bicycling and that will be a little bit annoying, but if it leads to more dedicated biking space or even more aknowledgement to the point where drivers know we'll be turning from the left lane, that's an overall win.
Besides, the time has come where there's a need for a shift in the way people live, a sort of regression back to pre-industrial times, which means less people in cars.
"our fossil-fuel-based, automobile-centered, throwaway economy is not a viable model for the world. The alternative is a solar/hydrogen energy economy, an urban transport system that is centered on advanced-design public rail systems and that relies more on the bicycle and less on the automobile, and a comprehensive reuse/recycle economy." Awesome! Soon I will get to say things like "I was doing this shit back ten years ago in 2008 when it was just starting to get trendy" like I get to say about pretty much everything on the Internet now vs. 1998! I love sounding like an old man!
