What's the best route to get up in the mountains for some climbing (road bike) from DTLA? I

up to the mountains? That is pretty vague. There are plenty of mountains but which ones where you referring to.

I really don't know the profiles of mountains around here. What's a good mountain with a long and hard climb?

Go east to Pasadena and La Cañada Flintridge. You can go all the way to Mt. Wilson if you want. Or maybe you can go south to Palos Verdes.

I'm not sure if Angeles Crest Highway has been closed off cause of the fires or not. If it is closed off for the fires, or for the rains coming, this would be an awesome road to take.

Angeles is pretty much closed off and on still. Dont know when it will be avail. But yeah, it your looking for a really long mean climb....climb angeles crest.

I was actually pointing out that Angels Crest Hwy being closed was a plus. You won't have any cars to deal with. The only thing you would have to deal with, is if you get caught. You'll just have to be creative and resourceful at that point. I would love to try this and if the opportunity arises, you can bet I'll be there!

Just wear a kit that makes you "look pro" and I'm sure nobody will say a thing... worst case scenario you have to bomb down the mountain which will seriously push your descending skills.

you should start coming out on our saturday rides Caturday Warriors.

we're just getting back on the bikes from off season but in a couple months we'll be back to full speed riding to the palomars and such

When Angeles is closed....cops are posted...they wont let you, your bike, or your cat through.
