so i was thinking about holding a downhill run from chantry flats down to in and out on Santa Anita winner gets a #1 and 10% off at Stan's Monrovia bikes on any accessories helmets will be a must and lights a must and some sort of ambulance on call and spotters to make sure no traffic on the hill it self all participants get a spoke card and we can all regroup and get beers

@Super Spanks...maybe your ride will work out. I'm not sure how many people have downhill bikes, but there is a group of Midnight Ridazz who do a bunch of mountain biking. They are called the mountaineerz. You could do a search for their posts and rides.

ahh, when I first saw the mention of "downhill" at Chantry Flats, I was thinking of the single track where the mountain biker went over the cliff a few years back (killed). Or the winding paved road to the trail head. Which would be great for the roadies. But the route on the map is an easy downhill cruiser ride on a wide road. Fixies can handle that. Maybe even try some new moves like "bike surfing".

well thanks kinda why i picked that spot i figured it would be good for all of us

You should consider starting the downhill from the top of the San Olene fire road.
It's a gravel road that starts from the chantry flats ranger station and goes to a peak with a bunch of cool antennas and a bizarre circular concrete structure.

but that also would take alot of skill for roadies and fixies so the ride i chose is more for every one

If you bill it as having a chance of losing your life, then you'll have a good turnout. If it's safe for everyone's grandma, they're not even going to bother.

lol that's true but you do still have a chance of losing your life after all there is a cliff side and you can make allot of speed on the descent that is why i would like to have an ambulance kinda hanging around so if anyone crashes bad they can have help near by

e-mail INFO@BIKEATTACK.COM and you'll get some of those hardcore shit with said expensive "intense" brand bikes and "high-end bra" type of fucking equipment and gear. a handful, the owner, the store manager and six or 7 of their close rich pampered by mommy and daddy (mom, dad i want to be a pro down-hill mountain biker) friends.

How about a Super D format ? This event combines climbing with decending. Afit rider can often outride a pure downhill rig.

nope sorry i am going to brake it up in to different category because we all know a road has more gears and can create more speed downhill then a downhill bike so in fairness to all it will be different cat motos

Will there be ? Retro Hardtail class? Retro Repack class ? Masters? Pro?

gezzz man there will be so far just mtb class and road and fixie and if bmxers show up then a bmx class it is a long enough coarse that every one might be tired when they get done lol

This is a race? If it's happening when the KROQ Microbrew Festival is happening, I'm sure I would ride a littler faster (on my $40 Pacific Anchor DH Special ;-) That's always a good time with good music & cheap beers.

forgot to add, that Microbeer Festival is at nearby Santa Anita Race Track that's really close to your route. I'm not from the area, but have ridden those hills (road & off) around there. Are there really cliffs on your route?
just_ride11.17.08 - 7:03 pm
reply
yes there are cliffs and that would be cool but do you think they will let in a bunch of hooligans on bike in

Yea, this sounds srsly awesome esp bc I've been looking for a good reason to ride from WLA to Chantry Flats!

Just checked the dates for the next beer fest. Really didn't search long, but I don't see any dates. Maybe the KROQ hooligans shut it down. But if it's still going on, hooligans on bikes would blend right in.

hey super spanks. so did i, until i broke my collar bone. im just saying that to be a pro downhiller from the get go you pretty much need a wealthy support start unless you are some super fucking amazing kid who get's spotted. Glad you worked hard for yours. i know some other dudes that work there that did the same. congratz. "HI-END BRA"

Spanks, initially, I was going by the route map, since it shows point A as starting out in the 'burbs below the hills (cruiser run!). But then I see you mentioned going up the road till it ends. Just to clarify, this is to start at the ranger station/trail head of Chantry Flats? If that's the case, that's a pretty serious downhill race with 2ft. rock curbs straight into 500ft+ drops! And at night! If I go, I'll bring a parachute ;-) Great ride up & down though. Bikes can go faster then cars on the curves.
just_ride11.18.08 - 11:19 am
reply
yup thats why i chose it lol but google maps wouldn't let me show a start point at the trail head people dont seam to think its a serious ride lol
i wouldnt want someone with no desending skills to compeat in this one but i am sure its going to happen ;p
