Sleepy Flat?

Last night while i was sleeping one of the tires on my bike spontaneously woke me up with a loud pop and hissing sound.
I got up to find my back tire flat.
Does this happen to anyone else?
It happened once before when my bike was leaning against a wall and I was drinking a beer.
What makes this happen?

3 out of maybe 5 flats I've ever had happened while I was off my bike standing around. It was the rim tape.

the ghost of stilline past is fuckin with you.
or not.
where does the tear/hole start in the tube?
wherever the hole or tear is, check that same area of ur rim and tire (assuming you line up ur tube and tire via valve stem to logo)

i learned that the hard way.

Yeah what you need to do is trace back from where the hole was. My bet is an exposed edge on the rim.

also check the hole for the valve stem on ur rim. i went through many tubes bc the hole's edge was ever so slightly rough and it made miniscule tears on my valve when i rode.
it took me forever to realize that i needed to bevel the edges

It happened to me on the subway, between the North Hollywood and Universal City stops. Half the subway car hit the floor it was so loud.

Check that you're tire pressure isn't too high.
Also, as mentioned before, a high pressure and extra heat can push it over the limit as well.
