Hey there to all you Mad Scientist of Bicycle Building,
I have recently found my self in the mood to build my own lugged road/touring bike( out here the best thing to ride is a mountain,hence all I have)and I would like to make it out of................... Bamboo
Now I know one of the challenges is going to be the bond between the steal and the baboo( I figure a combination of copper solder and JB weld should give me the effect that I'm after),Another potential challenge will be finding bamboo the right size.
So what I'm asking is if any of you can give me some advise
For instance if any of you have done or tried something like this,you can tell me what succeeded and what failed miserably(like the use of JB weld for instance)
or where I can find industrial scaled bamboo (ha)
any advice would be appreciated

DO NOT BUY THE BAMBOO OFF ANOTHER HUMAN BEING,
GROW YOUR OWN BAMBOO.

HAHA,man I live in the dessert,Bamboo will grow out here,but it aint exactly the healthiest I've seen... I'll probably steal some next time I'm in the city if I don't find a better source before then. Also gotta look up the best kind to use(googling as we type),maybe one of the gazzilion golf course in palm springs will have what I want,In other words,I'm gonna be caring a saw and a measured string with me where ever I go for a wile

Make sure the bamboo is properly dried / treated / etc. before you start building.
You can't just hack down a bamboo tree and JB weld it into a bike frame and expect to have a roadworthy machine.

yeah,I've already seen the other 2 links, and of course I know that I'll have to treat it, you have to treat anything organic if you want it to last

Oh man, I just gave my dad a book about Bamboo projects and it has a bike in it that someone made out of bamboo. If only I hadn't left home, I could scan it in for you.
But look around online, because what you described is defiantly out there.

Calfee, the small company that makes composite bike frames, has made (and I think they offer) a bamboo bike. I know he's working on it. Calfee is located in Santa Cruz....along with a bunch of other cool bike stuff.
When are we going to Santa Cruz?

I saw some dudes in NYC are charging people a grand to attend their bamboo bike building seminar. They use carbon tape and epoxy at the joints. Perhaps one of the local bike co-ops could teach this class. Machine Project? LA needs an Bamboo Bike Brigade!
