Elections March 3rd
Thread started by sexy at 02.27.09 - 11:41 am

Does anybody have any recommendations for the upcoming LA city elections coming up.

I know a bunch of people are against measure B for solar panels.
Those against measure B state that there is no bidding for the panels or the work.. Local 18 IBEW is going to do all the work which I have no problem with.

Any suggestions, any positions. Any links that talk about all the different canidates.

Only community college board member I know is Nancy Pearlman, she is a Green Party member, yet I don't know what work she has done since being elected last time around.

Wendy Greuel seems to have the hots for one of our own. What does a chick politician flirting with one of us qualify her for Controller.

What about mayor, there has to be somebody better then Villaraigosa. Antonio has been a huge let down sell out. I wish somebody could remind him who he was and where he came from. I like Saltsburg way better then the current suit filling the job. He is the only one I have heard speak. Saltsburg press conference would be more fun to watch.

Yes, please.

This town needs an integrated public transportation system like I need cookys.

Which is to say: A LOT.

besides this picture I don't see any appeal to Walter Moore.
Thanks for pointing him out. Now I have eliminated another mayoral candidate

thanks aksendz. I appreciate you putting that out there.

I'm watching KNBC video interviews of all the mayor candidates right now. They are good interviews. Check them out to get more info on the candidates.

IF THERE IS A ELECTION IN YOUR CITY THIS IS REMINDER TO VOTE IF YOU HAVEN'T YET.

I did research on all of the mayoral candidates. I wanted to write a review of all the candidates for all city office but only got through the mayoral candidates. I just skimmed through the city attorney and controller office.

I am not 100% positive on city attorney. It is either between Noel Weiss (who is said to have faught on behalf of the people) and Carmen "Nuch" Trutianich who has a great campaign platform for plans for the office of city attorney which I find to be plain smart.

For Controller my pick is Wendy Greuel. Beside having a crush on on e of our own. She mentioned Expanding the City's bike network as one of her issues on her transportation section of her campaign website. (it might be her crush or us at the transportation committee meeting that caused her to place this on her website). I don't like the fact she raised money by advertising on buses. I have to overlook that and call her the best candidate running. She was in my opinion response to us at the last transportation committee meeting we went to.

my short (not really informative) suggestions For mayor.

My top choice is Carlos Alverez. He one of two is a self professed socialist with the Party for Socialism and Liberation.

If you are against socialism this is not the candidate for you. If you are like my friend who said he couldn't vote for Obama because he is too socialist (yeah right, I wish) he is definitely not the guy you want to vote for

I really like his pie in the sky (yes it possible) plans for the city.
Puts Socialism in the Front and center of his campaign for mayor.
Feels we have the resource to put fourth peoples needs first. That we can meet the needs of housing , healthcare and education.
Calls for 50% reductions in LAPD to meets those needs.
Wants to take large corporations and finance capital locally to help funds. Wants to have stronger community control of LAPD.
Wants to start a major jobs programs. Get rid of progressive taxes and increase regressive taxes.
Is against bond measure funding. Calls for $15 per hour minimum wage. Wants a major public transportation projects in Los Angeles. Wants to make sure public transportation system doesn’t cause gentrification. Wants to remove large corporations from Los Angeles and reinvigorate local Mom and Pop businesses. Call for more government jobs. Is against any public workers taking days off to balance gov’t budgets.
Calls for billboards to be used for social messages. First act as mayor would be to fire Chief Bratton and hold him accountable for the May day fiasco.

the other socialist candidate James Harris of the Socialist Workers Party lack any luster and did not make my top three choices.

My 2nd choice for mayor is Gordon Turner. Worked the City Attorneys office fo 14 years. Seems to really have grasp on many of the issues in the city and is realistic about how these issue can actually be accomplished considering all things political in the city of Los Angeles. Said he was called to run by the Latino community of Los Angeles.

My 3rd choice is David "Zuma Dog" Saltsburg. IF you watch is KNBC raw news interview, he goes in and out of character between Zuma Dog and David Saltsburg. He is a regular around city council meetings and claims to have people coming to him to share all the little and big problems they have with city govt.
He seems to have a pulse on what is going on around the city and is in touch with the people on the street in which city policy effects them. Has a fourteen point plan to which reduces bureaucracy and empowers employees city hall written by
Dr. W. Edwards Deming

another candidate for mayor that I liked, (literally seemed half baked)
is Craig X Rubin Pasadena Pastor, father of seven, actor, medical marijuana and hemp activist.
Wants to revitalize LA economy by taxing and regulating medical marijuana and creating a hemp industrial economy. Calls for a major desalination project to solve the city's water crises.

If your the person who thinks illegal immigrations is the cause of all of our social and financial wooes then Phil Jennerjahn is the guy for you. While working as Precinct Captain for the John McCain Campaign Jennerjahn got inspired to run for office.
His major issue is to enforce the "illegal immigration" problem in Los Angeles. He is a SAG Actor and Republican Activist.

For the ballot measures

I'm voting yes on Measure A. Set up a independent assessor for LAFD. If you vote no, don't worry they will but it up on the ballot again if it is a really good idea.

I'm voting no on Measure B. Of course I'm for solar power. Everybody who has study this, claims it may be a financial boon doggel for rate payers of the LADWP. Don't worry if this doesn't pass there will be more plans for solar power in Los Angeles. Lets just make sure we do it right and not waste what money we have. If I'm wrong on this it will come back.

I'm voting Yes on C allows members of the Fire and Police Pension Plan to marry or be adopted without losing their dependent Child benefits
From my understanding this has effected one kid, that is why they have placed this on the ballot.

I'm voting Yes on D. allows members of The Police and Fire Pension Plan to purchase at their own expense, a survivor benefit for a spouse or domestic partner. This is fully paid for by the employee and cost the city nothing. Beside the more member they negotiate health care plans for the better deal the Plan will receive.

I'm voting No on E. This will allow the Mayor at his/hers sole discretion to give financial incentives for business development

NO NO NO NO On E NO NO NO NO NO on E Important.

I just voted!

I woke up at 7:45, panicked and ran out the door as I jumped on my bike and hauled ass the 3 blocks to my polling place. When I burst into the building, all the nice old ladies running the polls freaked out and thought I was dying of thirst/hunger/had just run a few miles and worried at me as I breathlessly begged for a ballot.

The sad thing is, this is the second of as many elections I was eligible to vote in that I was the last person to cast my ballot there.
