LAST FRIDAY OF EVERY MONTH IS "CAR-FREE FRIDAY"!
LACBC has launched a new campaign- CAR-FREE FRIDAYS in LA!!
More bikes on LA streets! Ride your bike to work this Friday, January 30th!
WHEN: Friday, January, 30th - meet @ 8:00am ride @ 8:30am
WHERE: Hollywood/Western to Downtown LA
Ride Hosted by Molly Arevalo and Aurisha!!
Get your friends and co-workers who haven't started riding yet to commit to riding this Friday and join us in our vision of more bikes on our streets for a healthier and cleaner Los Angeles.
To celebrate LACBC's first "Car-Free Friday," on January 30th, we will be hosting a ride that will start at 8:00 am at Hollywood/Western Metro Station and will head to downtown LA! Stick around for post-ride coffee and breakfast treats!
Other organizations will also be hosting rides throughout LA County. Check out our website www.la-bike.org for more details throughout the week.
If you cannot make it to this ride, you can still leave your car at home, grab a friend, a co-worker, or just grab your bike and cruise to work in style - on your bike!
PS>> We're trying to get Councilmember, Eric Garcetti to ride with us!! Come out and let our Councilmembers know that we need more bike facilities!!

That's like, 70% of the people up in this desert.
But, they're even worse because they use a car to get them places, 1/2 mile down the street.

The likely realization that someone who typically drives to work will have by biking will be that they live way too far away from work.

I guess one way we could change that is by exposing them to a familiar area during rush-hour.
They'll really see the difference when they're sailing past the stand-still of vehicles crawling along at 5 mph!!!
"To think I spend $20 bucks a day sitting in this shit?!?!?!!!"

Man that is so much fun biking through traffic. Always seems be on rides in Hollywood that this happens. Alot of times biking in downtown this happens too, when I am out running errands.
I rode out to Whittier last week and was keeping pace with a few cars for about half the way, mainly because the stop lights, and a small bit of traffic. Often times I'll either go faster or be about the same speed as the buses. It takes 1:15-1:30 for a bus to go to Whittier and it takes 1:00 by bike.

well to be honest the last three critical masses i've been to, have been pretty lame. we always end up riding for like an hour or so, then end up making our way up to the peoples ride.

I'm with you on this AIDS66. LACM has gotten pretty freakin lame since the people's ride got up and running. It used to be we went riding on the LACM not knowing where we were going or what time we'll finish. Now it's ride around the same couple of square miles, then end up at a parking lot to hang out for an hour. Miss those days of rolling till 12 or 1am on the mass ride. The whole city was open to us. Nothing was off limits.
For the record, I'm not against the people's ride. I'm against us having to roll to the same freakin place after riding around for an hour or so. I'm against sitting around a parking lot shooting the shit, (which we just got done doing about an hour ago), instead of riding.

Woot, a city council member besides LaBonge (who really just likes ice cream not infrastructure). I may try and make this even though I live in Santa Monica and also work in Santa Monica. Trying to gauge if I can haul my ass back from Downtown to Santa Monica in time to get back to where I actually work. If not maybe I will just show up for the start and snap a few pictures and be on my way.

I'm gonna swing by on my way to work (not far from Hollywood & Western) and see you off, but then I gotta go to work, sigh . . .

+2000 everyone
i have read up on Critical Mass, and imo we are not doing it right...
we should explore our neighborhoods, and our city and ascert our right to pedal in them. Too much of us are concerned with cutting off traffic, getting drunk and faded(which is not a bad thing) and too busy trying to "lead" instead of just doing. User 1 said it right why are we hanging out in parking lots for hours at a time? We have just as much right to be on those roads as the four wheelers with transmission.
The more idiot and unexperienced drivers experience us as a group
riding with traffic, the more they will LEARN to ride WITH us safely...
my 2cents is up

I don't think I can make it after all, it is really way out of the way for me in the morning and I have been pretty swamped with work. I hope you get a good turn out, and I'm glad to hear cycling continues to get more attention from the city council.
