SFValley ride?

The Orange Line bicycle path is a great resource for valley riders. It's expansive, from the Warner Center, through Van Nuys, North Hollywood, and into Burbank. It's the valley's back bone. Most of it is a dedicated path with no cars.
Bike routes branch from the Orange Line "spine" like ribs, making everything ridable. Even newbies will feel safe. It's impossible to get lost, too. Those who tire can always use MTA.
Who's up for riding the path?

When were you thinking?
There are currently two (2) night rides in the valley. Both rides can/has made use of the Orange Line Bike Path. The first is the Peddle & Pubcrawl, which runs on the 1st Friday of each month. The second ride is called Cruz with Us, which rides on the Last Saturday of each month. Basically it puts the rides a week from each other.

So I'm slowly pedaling across the intersection at Roscoe and I hear this faint "Ride On!" or was it rock on? anyway its a pair of young girls in their car at the light, so I of course respond with "ride on ladies" with a pleasant smile.
God I have to work tonite...oh well

The La-criticalmass list had a discussion about a SFV mass style ride, the few participants talked about Tuesday night at 8pm starting along the Orange line around either Hayvenhurst or Woodley. The spot will depend upon what area has the optium meet point, (preride Kick back area, refreshment/convenies store, parking. This area was hashed out due to it mid point of all participants (about 7 milles away) in the Thread, it is also off a major MTA transportation point.
We thought MTA orange/red line station would be good at first due to getting people over the hill to take part, but as we discussed it would be about 14 miles away for some Valleyites that want to be part of it, after all it is a valley ride. Big Bike Dan expressed interest in coming ( and who doesn't want Dan and his stereo system on the ride), starting at the Red Line NOHO station would be great for him, but I think we should consider the Valley riders first.
The First or last Tuesday?.....What do you think.....feedback please
Take in consideration, (althought I haven't experienced it) there is a thron issue that has been brought to my attention on the Orange Line Bike Path. I would hate to have re live that last Midnight ridazzz' episode. It seems I fixed tubes all weekend.

Either tuesday would work, i'd personally like to see it the first tuesday of the month, but any way it goes id still ride. Starting from about havenhurst is also fair deal. I ride that path almost every day of the week and have never had a thorn issue except around the velodrome....since the construction has finished on that street it has cleaned up a bit. How much of the ride will be limited to the path? ....We will have about 7 miles in each direction to work with. Valley streets are much wider than LA or Hollywood streets so i think the ride could be safe and reasonable for just about and level of rider.

I ride the Orange Line bike path from Noho Redline station to Sepulveda Blvd and I have not once had a flat or thorn. Additionally, I ride much further down to Woodland Hills and still no flats thus far. In this latter case it would not be thorns; it would be the usual glass, debris.
Where there is a thorn threat is when you ride 'through' Balboa park. It is a nature reserve after all. Anyhow, the Orange Line bike path runs along the side of Balboa park (not through it) so there is a far less thorn threat.
The Orange Line is new and so the dedicated bike path is usually pretty pristine asphalt and void of any debris. Reason being there are no cars - just the bus expressway and scenic landscaping.
OK, thar be my intel report on OLBP.

I use the bike path for my commute, and haven't had a flat due to thorns.
South on Cahuenga is a mean downhill to Hollywood/Highland, and there's an easy return to the valley via the Redline.
I rode east on my lunch break into Burbank today. Construction was recently finished. Just some work on landscaping left. The asphalt is perfectly smooth.
Tuesdays are no good for me. Thursday or the weekend would be better.

How about making the route go through Sherman Oaks/Ventura Blvd. area. It would be a good place to promote. The valley is just so wide and the blocks are long but would make it a safer ride with the wider streets. I'm in Burbank myself and it would be cool if we just took over downtown Burbank... it is small though. I've tried to create a couple of routes that would be cool using google's Gmap Pedometer http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/ and I just never realized how big the valley was. With the Sunset ride... it was cool zig zagging from sunset to santa monica but with the valley... it would be just long rides. Either way... just as long as I ride... i'm down.

A ride down Ventura Blvd. might not be a bad thing. You could start near the Warner Center Orange Line stop, take Canoga to Ventura and coast eastwards to Studio City.
