Hey all.
I am working with the people organizing the
2009 Greater LA Bike Summit.
The summit is still in the planning phases but i'd love to show up at the next meeting with some ideas from ridazz about what you all would like to see the summit cover/ include.
I also wouldn't mind showing up with some ridazz who could commit to help make this thing happen ... but either way. I'd love to hear your ideas about potential:
Speakers
Workshops
Panels
Discussions
Topics
Goals
Priorities
etc.
There is a group that has been working on the Bike Summit for a bit, many of them come from a more academic/ activist background, and the Summit itself is receiving funding from Occidental College. However there is also an interest in representing many practical/ social aspects riding.
Check out the link to the wiki to get a sense of how the summit is unfolding.
At the very least: let fly with some ideas.

I'm in to help. I got busy lately, but after the holiday season I'm down to help with some policy goals and writing as well as a few DIY bike events around the weekend of the Bike Summit.

right on ubrayj!
I think you can sign on to the wiki linked above if you want to put in input about policy stuff.
I'm pretty sure they will be looking for people to host panels and do presentations, so if that is something you are into, keep it in mind.
I know you have tons of potential topics up your sleeve.
.............................
on a more serious note.
@EDDIE,
ILL LOOK INTO FOUNDING THE EDDIEBOYINLA DEFENSE FUND.
I WOULDN'T WANT TO SEE YOU IN THE CLINK WITH ALL THOSE BANKERS ... THOSE GUISE ARE RUTHLESS FRIGGIN' BACK STABBERS.

im not sure i get this. is this summit going to be like a community meeting/workshop pretty straight forward or is this going to be like a convention for bicyclists? [big venue] LBS's and big companies come to show off their latest products in their own booths plus some booths doing demo's/shows?
either one would be great.

From the Wiki:
The Bike Summit will bring together bicycle advocates, advocates for healthy communities, and others to network and to plan a bikable healthy future for Southern California. Among the Bike Summit's goals are:
- Getting bicyclists involved in advocacy for more bike friendly cities
- Strengthening ties between bicycle organizations
- Growing the capacity of bicycle organizations
- Strengthening ties between bicycle organizations and the broader movements for the environment, environmental justice, health, and urban livability.

My personal goal for the Bike summit is that it is FUN and engaging to the widest possible range of cyclists. I'm hoping to help emphasize the social and cultural aspects of LA's cycling scene to draw more people in and help make this thing fun and productive.
There is a lot of room here for people to become involved.
The easiest possible way to get your ideas out about what this thing could be is just start tapping them out below ...

There is a Bike Summit meeting on Wednesday.
If you have any ideas you want me to take to the Summit organizers put them down.

Yeah, what exactly
is this Summit? Big meeting, buncha little meetings? Is it / must it be all political? Can we bring megaphones?
