Company truck terminals seem to get alot of their business as well.
Without them, where else will the bike-less, truck driver be able to find a meal when they're laid over, or waiting on an empty trailer?
Fuel prices, USDOT reg's, and idiotic car-drivers are making this the last straw!!!

just a clarification...
this is not big business crushing the poor taco truck vendor. it's generally the mom and pop restaurant owner complaining. their argument is unfair competition from the trucks.
it is not outlawing anything. it is increasing the fine that already exists for trucks staying in the same location for more than 30 minutes.
other than that, i say lets go eat some tacos.

It's not big business crushing little business, that's true. It's small business crushing tiny business: these "mom and pop" restauranteurs are basically using the government (via their local Chamber of Commerce, who lobbied the govt. on their behalf) to eliminate their competition. Straight up bullying.
Notably, Chamber of Commerce types are often the first to cry "socialism" if anybody dares to suggest regulations on small business. In this case, though, it's somebody else's ox being gored, and they gain from it, so it's OK.
The "unfair competition" argument is a laugh, then, considering the source. It also sounds a lot less convincing when you consider that sit-down restaurants and taco trucks are offering two different services and environments, aimed at two different customer needs.
People who want quick, cheap food on the go and don't need to be waited on or to have on-site physical amenities for their comfort go to taco trucks. People who have more time, want to be waited on, want greater menu choices, want to be able to sit down inside at a table, and don't mind paying more for the amenities go to restaurants.
Of course, if you take away their choice, some people from the first group will inevitably go to restaurants instead. This is precisely what the restauranteurs are counting on, and it's why they want to take that choice away.
(Taking away consumer choice, BTW, is another thing that causes your average Chamber of Commerce member to bleat like a stuck pig when government does it in a way that hurts
his business.)

There not just proposing increasing the fine, they want to increase it to $1000 or 6 months in jail or both!
This is ridiculous - a jail sentence for parking your truck in one place for more than an hour!
All my best L.A. memories are about girls or taco trucks. There's something shockingly vivid about having great tacos out of a truck -- standing outside, wind in your hair, chowing down with all the homies, hipsters, off-duty cops, nurses, professors and homeless dudes. People are pretty cheerful around a taco truck; they smile, they talk. On a good night, the crowd around a taco truck is the closest thing we have to a unified Los Angeles soul.
