So we scouted the route a couple weeks ago and it's a pretty straightforward ride. Ideally Westsiders could ride out from BKW to Scoops an hour earlier, and we'll loop past BKW after dinner to drop off the Westsiders while the Eastsiders ride back to Scoops.
Same kind of pace as the Chinese New Years Ride.

Cool idea. My girl and I might be down. But the internets say the restaurant is only seven miles from Bikerowave, the way the crow flies. So I assume if it's 20 miles before eating as the ride post says, then we're doing a bigger, athletic loop through the city first, before ducking down to inglewood?

The ride officially starts at Scoops, but I think Westsiders (including myelf) will ride from BKW to Scoops an hour before the ride start.
The route I'm proposing.
So it's 20-food-20 for the people who start at Scoops. The return route to Scoops will loop past BKW to drop people off.

Can you make the second half of the ride go by the Blue Line?
K thanks

@user1 I don't think I can take the return route close to the Blue Line, because we're going to have to go from BKW to Scoops and the Blue Line starts in DTLA.
Ride time, meet at Scoops at 3:30 and ride out at 4pm. Westsiders, lets meet at BKW at 2:30.

The return is the same way? Cause the map just shows 21 miles?

@user1 no the return is going from the restaurant to BKW then back to Scoops, I didn't have a chance to add the return route to the map.

Don't change the ride time on my account, because I don't know if I'll make it, but meeting at Bikerowave at 2:30 is pretty early. If we leave from Scoops at 4, that's putting us the restaurant by 5. That's kinda an early dinner. I've got stuff I'm doing Sat. afternoon. Odds of me making the ride go up if it's an hour or two later. But again, don't change it on my account, but if you hear the same thing from others, maybe worth considering. Thx

Yeah I kinda like making this later if possible too. There's that block party thing going on from 2-7 and a later starting time would accommodate the peeps there too.

Perfect.
2:30pm meet at Bikerowave
3:30pm meet at Scoops
How much is Nigerian food and are we going to eat it Chinese-style?

I'd be willing to start later, but only by an hour or so bc it's going to take longer than 1 hour to travel the 21 miles from Scoops to Saaris....think at least 1.5 hours if not more.
When we scouted the route it took just around 3 hours of actual riding time for 45 miles (NOT COUNTING TIME SPENT AT STOPLIGHTS), we took no breaks between Scoops and the restaurant and rode a med-fast pace. I'm sure that some of the people coming will be able to hold that, but I wouldn't count on it.

@urbanpedal, i think it can be eaten family style -- i'll be able to give a cost idea later this week as the restaurant was closed when we scouted it.

Hour or so I think would work better. I'm only speaking for myself tho. I'm sure I can make it if it was 7am cause like da food selection and there's no writeup in yelp.
a win win situation.

@user1 do you mean like if it were to start at 7pm? or 7am? slightly confused... or do you mean to arrive at dinner at 7pm?
if the chinese new years ride was an example of how long the 20 miles is going to take us, leaving at 7pm would mean we wouldn't get dinner until waaaay late.

nancine,
Hey I didn't mean confuse you, I was just making a comment that I would make it a point to make it no matter what time it was.
If you're asking me about a good starting time from the kitchen, I would say 5:30 sharp. You started out 4pm and you said you were willing to start later by an hour or so. Sounds like 5:30pm would be a good time, no? Is arriving there at 7pm too late?
We could make good time cause it's a little downhill.
I'm with Cranktankerous in regards to wanting to catch the robots ride. I don't know when that stupid ride starts cause they don't have anything posted in the ride calendar.

RIDE TIME CHANGED!
Westsiders meet at BRW at 4pm, we will ride to Scoops to meet everyone at 5pm. Leaving Scoops for dinner at 5:30 SHARP.
Definitely bring a bike lock and headlight!
@alex, thanks for the correction!
@user1, i think quite a few people want to do ROBOTZ, if everyone wants to do that, then maybe we won't ride back to Scoops after dinner and just cruise around Westside till then?

Just doing a quick BUMP!
A couple people are going to meet us at the restaurant b/c they can't make the actual ride part -- I tried to go to the restaurant to do a taste test before I lead everyone there, but got there just as they were closing last night =(

So we're just going to have to trust Jonathan Gold's review and wing it!

THANK YOU to everyone who came and made the ride awesome!
Strong Riders + Good Grub = BLISS!
When I got home last night, I realized that we were probably the biggest check the restaurant had all night and it made me feel all warm and fuzzy that we got to eat great food *AND* support a local business. And I think JoJo was probly pretty charmed that our motley crew was so enthusiastic about the meal.
I'll be setting up another food ride in April, so keep an eye out.

nancine,
I hope your ride was awesome. The restaurant sounded great. I hope I have a chance to stop in some time.
There was so much going on this day it was hard deciding what to do. Maybe a Sunday ride works better for everyone? Just a thought.
