From a design competition....doesn't look commercially available...but kinda a cool idea....imagine what the streets would look like after Crank Mob or some other big ride if everyone had one of these on their bikes. Rainbow asphalt hangover.
THE ROAD: A bicyclist on the road often feels that they are under assault by passing vehicles. Particularly in cities where bicyclists seem rare, motor vehicles aggressively dominate the road, discouraging potential bicyclists from joining in.
THE CONTRAIL: Contrail is a small bright bike accessory that allows bicyclists to color in their own space on the road. It’s like playing with sidewalk chalk, but faster.
booo!!!!!!!! boo for that machine, just get a spray can and take the valves off the stucco (or whatever the hell they are) cans.. and shoot it at the ground, and have the valve pop in your hand :)
I've seen this done before. This guy had a rig like those industrial ones above. He made it himself and could be programed easily. It was mounted on his bike too! Looked way fuckin awesome to send out messages.
I found the inventor/designer through FaceBook and told him I thought the idea was cool, and those things would probably sell well if made. He writes back....
"Thanks for the heads up! I left this idea alone for a while after the competition, but now we're talking about making a prototype really soon. I'm going to do my best to make the development process transparent so people can make some DIY contrails to test out and perhaps help out. I'll let you know what happens next. Give LA my best.
