Dude...some jackass stole my bike between 645 am and 12 pm today right in front of the Macy's shopping center on 7th between Flower and Hope St.
Its an older Nishiki road frame, podwer coated black with black wheels and red striped tires with red grip tape and a black saddle with red "Montage" lettering. PLEASE be on the lookout for it around Los Angeles, its custom built so if you see it its DEF mine.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE call me if you see it! (714) 345-5245 or have any ideas how/where I can look for it.

No a coil lock...If I U lock it then I could only lock the frame :( should I still just get a U lock? It was attached to a city U post.

You need to use two U-locks. One to lock the front wheel and the frame to a stationary object. Another smaller U-lock to lock the back tire to the frame.
Coils, cables or anything that isn't a Kryptonite, Bulldog or reasonable fascimilie is going to get cut in 3 seconds.

I am sorry for your loss, we will all keep an eye out.
But never use cables, coils or anything similar to lock a bike up...especially downtown or in Echo Park and Silver Lake.
Two U-locks are the only way to protect your bike.

dam 3 u locks? forsure? or ill try to find a spot in my office. so other than snooping out the large rides for my bike anywhere i can look like macarthur park or shit like that?

it will either be repainted or the parts will be changed with other bikes
best of luck!
or you could take of your front wheel and using a bigger u lock attach wheel wheel frame and object.

Maybe the ulock companies are behind the recent theft escalation.

NO. IT IS NOT ANY GOOD.
I had a thick ass cable lock on a KIDDIE BIKE around Hollywood/ Highland and it got STOLEN. A KIDDIE BIKE!! I mean, clearly, I did not care for the $5 bike that much, so I used the cable lock, but it shows you that even thick ones won't even protect kiddie bikes which shouldn't be protected in the first place.

u lock the rear wheel and frame to the pole and use the krypoflex cable to lock the front wheel to the u lock.

DO THIS!
If you do a search on "stolen bike" on this forum, almost every bike stolen was either unlocked or locked with a cable lock.

no problem man. i saw that your bike meant a lot to you the day we met you on the subway... and it sucks getting something stolen that means that much to a person.
you said it was your dads bike or something like that right? my bike was given to me by my father. I love my bike a lot. i built it, i've had it for 6 years, its a family hand me down, and i grew to love it. so I kinda fell your pain man... again we can help you with a new bike. just let us know...

yea it was my dad's old old old nishiki frame...handed it down to me and got it painted and bought all the parts any helped put it together. super bummed someone would just take it but man it sucks the world we live in.
i hope you never have to go thru this crap....how do you usually lock up? u lock, double u locks? i'll havta be wayy more prepared next time.

when i had a u-lock, i would u-lock the frame and cable the front wheel....
now i just have a cable :/ but then again my bike has been with me for 5-6 years now, and doesn't look as pretty and cool, as it did back in the days. i still can get jacked, but I just don't leave it in the bad LA areas anymore. store owners/people are really nice to our riders and I. we mainly dont have to leave them outside. or if theres too many riders the owners watch out for us.....
but really, if you dont want your bike or parts getting jacked. heres what you need to do: three u-locks, take off your seat and anything else worth stealing. thats crazy huh?
or just get a bodyguard to post up next to your bike...
anyways one u-lock & a thick steal chain will do for the next time.

How about a self destruct button you can keep in your pocket and when someone jacks your shit you just hit the button and let the fucker die...some kids stole my bike from APU 3 weeks ago and the cops found it and arrested the kids and some stolen booze so i was super super lucky to have it back...i def feel for you..

Well they were on their way to get coffee from starbucks and saw 2 teenage kids dressed all super ratty and gang banged out on my nice looking 2008 specialized crosstrail which i no longer have and tried to question them. One of the officers rides road bikes and new it was an expensive bike for those kids to have, and they tried to stop the kids and they ran. the cops chased them to a cul de sac and caught them and the kids admitted stealing them. the police called the school cuz a lot of bike thefts happen on school grounds and my friend had called the campus security and security called my friend back...we got the bikes back 3 hours after being stolen with only a bent rim. oh and my friends beach cruiser was stolen too in case you were wondering why i keep saying 2 bikes.
