nice on a boring day. the park is always a nice place to be, but the old zoo isn't much. i guess i've just been there enough times to think it's boring. you will probably have fun.
its eazy... from the valley you come down through traveltown. and split right at the y intersection before the zoo parking lot. you'll see the cages to the right looking all creepy. worth going to chug some tall cans w/o being bothered.
if you're exploring griffith park, then you should also ride up trash truck hill and hit the top of mt. hollywood. it's a bunch of swichbacks but the ride isn't that bad. you get a great view of the valley. do it at night it's much better.
it's the highest point in griffith park. there is a flat area up there and some picnic benches. it's really cool at night. i went up there late one night and sat for an hour throwing cookies to the coyotes that were playing with each other up there. plus you get a great view of LA from the top. if you go at night, be careful of the rangers. you're not supposed to be up there after the park closes, but it's easy to avoid them.
HA HA the old zoo in griffith park .I remember that place.Charles manson used to kill his victims there. If you hike trough some of the brush you can still go to the exact spot....
@User1 a couple of rides have gone up trash truck hill. I think IAAL*MAF have done a couple of rides to the observatory that have gone up that route. i don't think anyone has taken it to the top of mt. hollywood. It's a dirt trail off the road, so depending on the condition you might have to walk up it. I've ridden up it on 700x23's when it was packed, but horses use the trail and it can get pretty soft. It's not really good for a group ride but go with a few people one night and you'll have a nice little ride with a great view.
I can get out of LB by 9pm tonite. BTW, LB might be hipster's heaven with the fixie events going on here tonite. The hipster bars on 4th street should be happening. You sure you don't want to put this Griffith ride off for another night? I'm game either way.
if its what i think it is, its a skid competition, and i could care less about that crap.
want to meet up at the chinatown station around 9:45 and ride around 10 or so? the route would pretty much be
broadway
left on ave 19
right on riverside
and then riverside goes right into the park.
nah, i got it. but lets do it on saturday instead. unless youre going to san diego. i have to help put the i bike la shirts together tonight and i dont know if ill be done before 9:30. is that cool?
