Red Light Citation Question

A couple weeks ago I got pulled over for running a red light (on an empty street at night) and I just got my citation in the mail.
Seems like they want me to pay $381. Is this normal for a red light violation on a bike? Seems suspiciously similar to the fine for running a red light in a car and I'm wondering if the Court ducked it up.
I love the County of LA....

Yes the fine is the same and could go on your driving record. But there are threads in this forum suggesting ways how to fight a ticket. Good luck.

I got the same thing during the Pillow Fight Ride. I go to court in September. Funny thing was that the light was green to go. Yay! Whatever.. I'm baller status.

Just received notice I beat my red light ticket. NOT GUILTY as opposed to DISMISSED. check it out ---->
follow through with each step from Indigis listed below. It worked for me.

The object is to postpone the process as long as possible and to give the cops as many opportunities to screw up as you can. Everything, except a final court appearance, if necessary, can be done online or on the phone. So, here is the system: The most important part is that you follow up and not be the one to miss a deadline.
First, a week before your trial date get an extension. This will put you back 3 months from the ticket date. Second, a week before your extended trial date request a Trial by Declaration. The court will send you the paperwork and give you a deadline. This will put you back about 5 months from the ticket date. Now. remember, a cop gets paid time and a half to go to court. He gets paid nothing to fill out his own Trial by Declaration. If he doesn't send his paperwork in, you win. I've won here about a third of the time. Your Trial by Declaration should be as thoroughly full of shit as you can write it.
Now, if you lose here they will send you a notice. When you get that note and if it says you lost, NEXT is request a TRIAL DE NOVO. This is a whole new trial in court that they will give you just for the asking. This will put you about 7 months from the date of the original citation. AND NO COP EVER SHOWED UP FOR THAT OLD OF A CITATION (3x). Good luck!

I've had a cop show up for a 7 month old citation, and he asked the judge to disallow traffic school because of all the delays, and his request was granted. Judge also maxed out the fine. In my case, I ran a stop sign at 2am because I was out of gas and coasting uphill into a gas station. The case before mine, the guy was busted going 100mph in a 55mph zone and had warrants out for 3 previous speeding tickets, yet the judge only made him pay the fine on one of the tickets and only gave him half the points for each one. So don't think you'll just get off scott free if you do take it all the way to trial in person - it can come back to bite you in a big way. But CHP are always more likely to show up in court for a traffic cite than a local cop, so you've probably got that going for you.

Mine was not a photo enforced. The cop was a block away watching me ride thru the red light.

Some BS ain't it? CA should adopt the law they have in Idaho:
BICYCLES @ STOP SIGNALS. (1) A person operating a bicycle or human-powered vehicle approaching a stop sign/steady red traffic control light shall slow down and, if required for safety, stop before entering the intersection. After slowing to a reasonable speed or stopping, the person shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle in the intersection or approaching on another highway...
Here's what you need to take with you to the court clerk if you decide to pay the fine:
California Vehicle Code VEH Section 1803
The following violations are not required to be reported under
subdivision (a):
(6) Violations for which a person was cited as a pedestrian or
while operating a bicycle or a motorized scooter.
If the citation doesn't specify that the violation was committed on a Bicycle the judge could dismiss it or reduce it because the officer failed to fill it out correctly.
If a mark on your record does show up contact the DMV and shove this down their throat:
DMV Violation Point Assessment
Any violation occurring as a pedestrian or a bicyclist has no point assigned.

if you ever get a photo enforcement red light ticket there is many things that the people accusing you have to prove in order find you guilty.
